They will teach upto Christmas and then finish the term soon after Christmas. We believe this to be for the best More of the children will get the bene fit of the entire term by this method than it was possible under the old method of teaching the entire term after Christmas, which would run the school into the busy Spring months and a largo numbei of our boys and girls would have to stop for farm work. The teachers who start before Christmas will not draw any pay until after the apportionment shall have been made by the board of commissioners in Jauy., unless the committees have held over a part of their last apportionment; in that case the teachers can 'drfw their salaries monthly. Cullum, Prof . of the chair of the Bible at Wako Porest College, was in our midst last Sunday and preached in the Baptist church here lafet Sunday night to a large audience on "The need of prayer, from a survey of the field." Prof. Cullum made a splendid tplk anu ueiignceu ins auuience; lie id always received here with open armp; We look upon him as one of our boys, though born in Halifax conuty, yet he spent a large number of his boyhood days in our midst. His success and rise in life is a source of piide to his many friends and admirers here, and should be an incentive to our boys and young men. Ten short years ago Prof. Cullum was a poor, uncultured country lad he felt called to preach the gospyl and in these shoit ten years he hs by in domitable energry, perseverance and hard study thoroughly educated him self, graduating at Wake Forest College and then at the Southern Baptist iheological Seminary at Louisville, Ky., ana the trustees of Wake Foiest College recognizing the worth oi the man called Prof. Cullum to the chair of the Bible of that Institution and to day he occupies one of the most im- ' portant positions of any man iu the btate of .North Carolina. What an inspiration his life bo far should be to every young man and boy in our county who aesires to make something of himself f How To Prevent Croup. Croup is a terror to young mothers and to post them concerning the cause, first symptoms and treatment is the object of this item. The origin of croup is a common ecld. Children Mho are subject to it take cold very easily and croup is almost sure to follow. The first symptom is hoarseneFS ; thfa is soon followed by a peculiar rough cough, which is easily recognized and will never be forgotten by one who has heard it. Tho time to act is when the child first becomes hoarse. If Cham berlain's Cough Remedy is freely given ail tendency to croup will soon disap pear. Even after tho croupy cough has developed it will prevent the at tack. There is no danger in giving this remedy for it contains nothing in iurious. For sale t$ F: P.
