The thrilty, wide a-wake good people of Wise have put their shoulders to Ihe wheel and their hands iu iheir pocket books and are going to supplement their public school funds to such an extent as to run a nine months school of high grade in their community. They have employed Mr. W. O. Dunn and daughter, of Littleton, to take charge of the. bchooi. These people are to be commended for their gener osity along the educational line. . Tins makes two districts in our county that are doing this. The progressive, good people of Clrirchill started this last year and will continue the good work. Let other neighborhoods catch the good spirit and do likewise. Confederate Eeunion and Educa' tional Rally; a Grand Success. The best reunion of the Confederate veterans ever held in this county was witnessed last Saturday. Of this wo are glad, for the noble soldiers have not many more years with us and we should provide them as much pleasure in their declining years as possible. The members of the John White Camp met at the court house and out of respect to t.heir commanding officer decided to postpone the election of officers until he returned. The following telegram was read: Chairman Confederate Veterans: "Mv heart is with you to day. God bless you all. "Y. J, White From the Court House the line of march led up Main street headed by the Wairen Guards, Capt. E. C. Price, imading, to Deans Grove. Here seats were arranged fronting the speakers' stand. After praver by the Rev. T. J. Taylor, the Hou. Dan Hugh McLean, of Dunn, was introduced by Tasker Polk, Esq. Mr. McLean praised the valor of the old soldiers and the loyalty of the women who aideil them. He made a stirring ap peal that this day be continued. The only shadow on the fair history of N C, said the speaker, is the illiteracy ( of her sons and daughters which wa all deplore and vhich we are strenously endeaving to remedy. In a neat speech, Prof. John Graham, introduced Dr. B. F. Dixon, of Raleigh. Dr. Dixon caught the attention of all by his humorous treatment of the sub ject of education, and was frequently applauded. After the speeches a bountiful din ner, sufficient for the 1200 people who attended was spiead. To the gentlemen comprising the various committees much praise is due for the wav iu which they managed tie arrangements.
