THE RECROD. PUBLISHED EVERY FRIDAY. J. C. HARDY, Editor and Proprietor. One Year. Six Months, Three Months, $1.00 .50 .25 Entered December 5th. 1892, at War renton, N. C, as second-class matter, under act of Congress of Mch. 3, 1879. FRIDAY, MAY 11,. 1906. The Franklin Times has changed its form to a six column eight page paper. This change greatly improves the appearance of The Times. We are still anxious that the County Commissioners should take up the matter of some im provements to the court house. Make it attractive and creditable to the county. The New Code of North Caro lina takes the duty of levying the tax from a joint meeting of the Magistrates and County Commis sioners and places the duty en tirely with the Board of County Commissioners. Therefore the Magistrates will not be required to meet for this purpose on the 1st. Monday in June. The financial condition of War ran County is good. The treas urers report Monday showed for the general county fund a balance oa hand of $15,048.00. This is at least 10,000.00 more than it will take to run the county until the taxes for this year begin to come in. This being the case it might be well for the County Commis sioners to consider the advisa bility of a small reduction in the county levy this year. As will be seen from a notice ii another column the County Democi atic Executive Committee is called together next Tuesday, the 15th. iast. The Committee is called together for the purpose of fixing a date for the holding of Primaries and County Conven tion. Politics will now warm up in earnest and every candidate will do his best to beat the. other fellow at the primaries. It is the duty of every democratic voter in the county to take part in these primaries and we wish right, now to begin urging upon the voters the importance of attending the primaries. Fortunate Missourians. "When I was a druggist, at Livonia, Mo.," writes T. J. Dwyer, uow bf GrajsvilJe, Mo., "three of my cntto niers were rmaneutly cured of con sumption bDr. Kiug's New Discovery, and are well and strong to da3'. ' One was trying to sell his property and move to Arizona, but after using New Discovery a tshort time he found it unnecessary to do so. 1 regard Dr. .King's Now Discovery as the most wondoiful -medicine in existence." Surest Cough and Cold cure aud Throat end I ung healer. Guaranteed bC. A. Thomas Druggist. 50c aud $1. Pitchford-Wheeier. On Sunday morning, April 29th. at nine thirty o'clock at. the home of the bride near Odell, Warren County, there .was a quiet but pretty marriage when Mr. George Wheeler and Miss Sallie Pitchford were united: in holy matrimony by Rev. B. E. Dunn. The bride was beautifully gowned in gray silk and wore a necklace of pearls. Immediately after the ceremony the happy couple left for Castalia, the. home of the groom, amid showers of congratulations and best wishes' for a long and happy life. Pcstmastsr Eobbsd. G. W. Fouts, Postmaster at Kiver tou, la., nearly lost his life and wes robbed of all comfort, according to his letter, which says: For 20 year I had chronic liver complaint, which led to such a severe case of jaundice that even my fli:ger uttiis turned yellow; when my doctor prescribed Electric Bitters; .which cured me and have kept me well for eleven, .years." Sure cure far Biliousness, Neuralgia, Weakness and all Stomach, Liver, Kidney and Blad. der derangements; A wonderful Tonic. At U. A. Thomas Drug stove. 50 cents. The Woman's Conference. The Womans Foreign Mis sionary Society of the N. C. Con ference met in the Methodist church Warrenton, N. C, May 3rd. and closed Sunday night the 6th. ' The Conference is composed of delegates from the local Auxili aries and Bright Jewel Societies: There were present about 90 delegates, coming from all parts of the Conference. They were a splendid body of cultured chris tian womem filled with zeal to serve the Master. , The president of the Society is Mrs. Lucy A. Cunninggim, lovingly known as "Aunt Lucy", the Secretary Miss Blanche Fentress, who has held this office from the organization, 28 years ago; the Corresponding Secretary Mrs. F. D. Swindell, the Treas urer (acting), Mrs. B. B. Adams. The reports from the various auxiliaries show good progress during the year. Below will be found some statistics which in some measure tell the story of their useful labors. No. of Auxiliaries 110 No. of Auxiliaries organized dur the year . . . 6. No. of Members 1T07 No. of New Members 183 No. of Bright Jewels Band 59 No. of Bright Jewels Members 1,830. Amount raised past year $8,438.28. Amount raised previous year $6,328.10. An increase of $2,110.18 for the year. This" is a noble report 1,707 women and 1,830 children to raise $8,438.28. What could be done if all the christian churches should do as well? The Conference was welcomed to Warrenton in appropriate ad dresses by Mrs. W. W. Rose for the local W. F. M. Society, Mrs. E. J. Freeman of the W. H. M. Society, and Mrs. V. L. Pendle ton of the W. C. T. U. , These addresses were f elect ously responded to by Mrs. W. H. McCabe, of Durham. It was very evident that not only was a large amount of money raised by this society, but there was a blessing to those who for love of Christ was engaged in it. y An interesting feature of the Conference was the presence of two Missionaries of this Board. Miss Layone Glenn and Miss Elizabeth Davis of the Brazil Mission. . Miss Glenn is a native of Geor gia, while Miss Davis is a native of Warrenton, the daughter of Rev. (Col.) W. S. Dayis. It was inspiring to hear these conse crated women tell of their work in the Mission field. Saturday was Bright Jewel Day. -Mrs. L. M. Harden is manager of the Conference So ciety. They were welcomed to Warrenton by Miss Ethel Allen. Response by Miss Mamie New man, of Durham. The reports from the Bands show great pros perity during the year. Among other things they support a Medi cal Missionary in Soochaw, China. On Sunday the Presiding Elder of the Warrenton District, Rev. G. F. Smith, preached an inspir sermon before the Society. Sunday evening at 3:30 o'clock the Bright Jewels gave an enter tainment consisting of songs and welcome address. The Mission aries then made very interesting talks to the children about the children in Brazil. On Sunday night the Mission aries again made very interesting talks about their work in Brazil and the need of the christian re ligion in that country. This closed one of the most profitable meetings held since the Society was organized 28 years ago. " The visitors were loud in their praises of the hospitality and kindness of the people of War renton. ThQ Eichsst Man in the World.
