Miss Josephine Miller returned to'het school at Norlina Monday. Mr. J. L. Ridout, of Axtel, was in our midst a few days ago. We always feel better for having been in his company. Miss Pearl Fleming returned Murfresboro College the first of the week. ' Mr. A. T. Edwards spent several days of last week with his people in Franklin county. We are sorry to say that Waverly Hays has been quite sick for the past week, but glad to hear at this writing that he is some better. : . - Mr. Rufus Faison, of Raleigh, who had been a pleasant visitor to relatives here for several days left for his home Monday. Mr. Roy Champion, from Roanoke Rapids, spent a day of last week with his peeple here Mr. Pryor vAllen, from War renton visited in the home of Mr. W. V. Fleming Sunday. Mr. Richard Edwards, of Franklin county, spent j Sunday with his peple here. Miss Margaret Davis returned Sunday and taken charge of her sctiool here Monday. Miss Sue Watkins spent Mon day in Wan enton. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Riggan, of Raleigh, spent a short time with their people here Xmas. Mr, Robert Champion and family have moved near Ches berry. Hope that they will like thei new home. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Fagg, of Portsmouth, have been visiting at Mr. T. C. Reavis'. . Messrs. E. M. andE. A. Good wyn, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Good wyn, Jr., and Miss Bertha Good wyn, of Norfolk, and Mr. - and Mrs. G. F. Goodwyn, of Cheraw, S.rK., spent Xmas with their parents. -' Mrs. R. E. Aycock has recent ly returned from Whitaker's, where she visited her daughter, Mrs. Jeff Rogers. Miss Belle Field, of Charlotte, and Misses Mary, Bettie and Fannie Field, of Statesville, spent the Xmas holidays at home. Rev. Mr, Wilcox, fr.;m Halifax county, has accepted a call to the Baptist church here, and. will preach his initial sermon at 11 o'clock on the 17th of this month. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Jones and Mr. Sidney Sones, from Wake, have been visiting at Mr. Henry Jones'. I must not for get to state that Mr. F. B. Newell made an informal talk at Capt. Geodwyn's store on the improved method of farming. The information im parted was -appreciated by his fearers and will boubtless tend to them with ultimate'' good.. There Was an entertainment given at the Baptist church on Xmos eve by the S. S. . scholars, which was greatly' enjoyed by the little folks, and also by the older ones. XXX. where they were cordially wel comed by Mr. and Mrs. Stal- -lings. We passed the time very pleasantly with stories and games, until one o'clock, when ! we were summoned to the din ing room' where a sumptuos re past was served. In the afternoon Mrs. - Boyd Russell contributed much to the enjoyment of the occasion by music both instrumental and vo cal. At four o'clock we took leave of our charming hostess, with many regrets that a day so thoroughly enjoyed by all had sped - so quickly and wishing them a long life filled with much happiness. It always seemed her pleasure to wait on the white people and was very obedient in her service and she will be great ly missed by us as well as by the colored.
