J., on the hank of the Passaic river, was exci ted on Tuesday last', by ''" terrible . ac c.ident which nail taken place that af ternoon, in the print works at that place. Our reporter', learned yester day that the operatives had made a practice of drinking a stimulant pom posed of water mixed with sulphuric acid and flavored with alcohol, which was generally concocted by the chem-, ist ct the' estabJlUbmenJ for their qser. On Tuesday, a little before 'dinner hour, five ox the men; all Hollanders, feeling thirsty stepped info the chem ical room for a nfn of their favorite beverage; but as there was none on hand, and the keeper being absent, they undertook to manufacture it them selves.' Next, to ' the sulphuric aci4 stood a jar containing arsenical acid, and this, in their ignorance, they poured into' the wWr.i adding the alcohol as usual. Tfbey all drank of tins mixture, doubtless taking larger horns than usual, nobody being near to hinder them, and the consequence was, that in a short time they were " taken lll? with symptoms of poison. Two died in less than an hour ;' and two others lingered in agony until VthreeVcloek,i when they, too, paid the1. penalty of their folly. . . , ? All four were 1 married, and leave - large . families to deplore their untime ly demise.
