FrieiuUy Dozen Club Has Meeting Mrs. William Pearsall, Jr. was hostess to members and guest of the Friendly Dozen bridge club Thursday night at her home on W. Pearsall St. at 8 o’clock. Arrangements of jonquils and gladiola were used in the living room where two tables were set for play. Mrs. Graham Prince was winner of high score prize for the club, a demitasse cup and saucer and Mrs. James Yates received an ash tray for guest high. The hostess served sandwiches cut in the shape of minuture hat chets, individual cherry tarts and hot punch. Warren and Mrs. Arthur Knott, grade mothers of the 10th grade, entertained the grade at a Valentine party Wed nesday in the recreational room of the Presbyterian church. Folk dances and games were conducted by the members of the lOthi grade. Valentines were exchanged. The hostesses served sandwiches, can dy, and coca-colas to 35 children. STEDMAN NEWS RALEIGH, Feb. 23—Ed Cotter, progressive Negro farm leader of the Stedman community in Cum berland County, is taking advan tage of production know-how and n?w markets to increase his family farm income in 1951. Last .•October Cotter " was * per suaded by H. A. Johnson, Negro county agent in Cumberland for the State College Extension Serv ice, to take home a bushel of the new Arlington oats and plant them beside some of his own kind of oats. A recent check shows that the new variety is doing fine. The field has been top-dressed according to recommendations of the Extension Service. Cotter hopes to develop into small grain production and grow both feed and seed. County Agent Johnson Is encouraging him to follow the Arlington oats with a crop of Ogden soybeans and there by put his small grain land into growing two crops a year. The small grain-soybean rotation has been fftnd quite profitable in tests at McCullers Branch Experi ment Station in Wake County. PONT OO THROUGH LIFE . . .
