' Kay Alphin Honored On 4 Sixth Birthday Little Miss Kay Alphin was hon ored on her sixth birthday Thurs day when her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Alphin, entertained several of Kay’s f.-iends at a birthday par ty at the Alphin home. During the afternoon, outdoor games were played, and later Kay opened her many interesting gifts. The guests were invited into the • dining room where sandwiches, birthday cake, ice cream and drinks were Served. Summer flowers dec orated the home. Kay gave each child attending a party favor. Those enjoying the party with the honoree were Jenny Sercy, Jean Hudson, Dorothy and Elaine Adcock, Peggy Beasley, Barbara Norris, Patricia. Betty and Woodv Stewart, Betty Ward, Elaine, Car olyn, Jean, Jane, Ann and Clifton & Alphin, Mrs. W. V Wheeler. Mrs. W J. L. Honeycutt and Mrs. Woodrow Stewart. Mrs. James Yates Bridge Hostess Monday Evening Mrs. O. C. Mitchell and Mrs. John Ciccone were guests when Jh Mrs. James Yates entertained at w bridge Monday evening at 8 o'- clock at her home on West Divine Street. Beautiful arrangements of zin nias, snap dragons and gladioli were used in decorating the Yates home. Mrs. Mitchell was awarded guest high prize at the conclu sion of play and Mrs. Glenn Rid dle tallied the highest club score. Second high prize went, to Mrs. At Mickey Rouse. Following three progressions the hostess served lime sherbet, dev ils food cake and nuts. The club menroers playing were Misses Libby Ray Cromartie, Kit-; ty Taylor, Eleanor Goddard, Louise McGugan and Mrs. Glenn Riddle, Mrs. Mickey Rouse. McKay Entertains For Daughters-ln-Law One of the loveliest social events of the summer season occured yes terday afternoon when Mrs. George Pope McKay entertained at open house honoring her daughters-in law, Mrs. Leon McKay, a recent bride, and Mrs. George Pope Mc- Kay Jr. of Shreveport, La. Guests THE DAILY RECORD, DUNN. N. C. called to meet the honorees be tween the hours of four thirty and six thirty o’clock. Mrs. Henry C. Lee received at the door, and Mrs. Arthur Pope made the presentations to the re ceiving line. Those in the re ceiving line included Mrs. George Pope McKay, the honorees, Mrs. Leon McKay, and Mrs. George Pope McKay Jr., Mrs. Archibald K. Chrrie of Raeford, mother of .the bride, and Mrs. William Raw- I lings of Capron Virginia, the for ’ mer Novella Pope. Mrs. Leon Mc- Kay wore her wedding gown for the occasion and the costumes of those in the receiving line were complemented with corsages of or chids. IThe mantel in the- living room held an unusual arrangement of | magnolias and magnolia leaves. Other bouquets of summer flowers were arranged throughout the room with pink asters and carnations predominating. Mrs. Hubert Peay and Mrs. James Snipes invited the guests into the dining room where Mrs. Alfred Blalock received. A color scheme of green and white, the bridal colors, was used in the dining room appointments. The table was covered with a beautiful applique cloth, and was centered with an William Robert Greer Jr., spent last week in Jacksonville visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Greer. Mr. and Mrs. Mangum Butler and Mrs. Ernest Beasley spent Friday in Raleigh visiting friends. IN SANFORD Mrs. L. C. Dupree was in San ford Tuesday visiting friends. VISITS SISTER Mr. and Mrs. Loroman Dupree had as their guests last week her sister. Mrs. H. L. Tripp and daughters Judy and Nancy of Lake City, South Carolina. WILLIAMS LEAVE Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Williams and daughter, Kay, left Tuesday to make their home in Clearwa ter, Fla. AT LAKE Stacy Johnson and Miss Gaye Lee are at White Lake today. PATIENT AT REX Sonny Carr is a patient in Rex Hospital in Raleigh where he will soon undergo a spinal operation. AT SNEAD’S FERRY Otis Warren is vacationing at Snead's Ferry this week, AT WRIGHTBVILLE Mrs. Howard M. Lee and daughter, Marilyn have returned after spending several days at WrightsviUe Beach. They stayed at the Chandler Hotel. STILL IN Charles Aycock is still a patient in Pittman Hospital. He has been very ill since his tonsils were re moved recently. FROM HAWAII Staff Sergeant J. O. Godwin of the U. S. Air Corps Is home on a 30 day furlough. He is currently stationed in Hawaii. BACK IN DUNN Gene Jackson has moved back to Dunn permanently after resid ing in Norfolk for some time. VISITING MOTHER ' Mr. and Mrs. Herman Pritchard of upper Montclair, N. J. are vis iting Mrs. E. B. Johnson, hpr mother. AWAITING ORDERS Claude Altman was here for the week end with his mother, Mrs. Fannie Lee Altman. He is now at a Naval Receiving Station in Nor folk, Va., awaiting further orders. AWAY FOR 5 DAYS Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Stephenson and children were at White Lake from last Wednesday to . Sunday. Rev. and Mrs. I. Clyde Sheppard and family and Larry Ennis were there Wednesday for the day. RECEIVES PROMOTION Mrs. Vernon West received word that her son, Dale has been pro moted to Yeoman Third Class. West is stationed in California. SUNDAY GUESTS Mr. and Mrs. Chester Barbour and ton. Tucker of Smithfield were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Don ald Langdon Sunday. VISIT LEES - Tom Watkins and Jack Mattox of Campbell College have been at White Lake visiting the J. B. Lee’s for the past two days. ATTENDS 4-H CAMP Miss Dolores Harmon, daughter of Mrs. Grace Hannon of Coats, attended the 4-H Camp at Camp Millstone near Rockingham last week. FROM FORT WORTH The Rev. and Mrs. Henry Morgan and three children of Fort Worth, Texas, stopped by to visit Mrs. Fannie Lee Altman Tuesday. Rev. Morgan, who has recently complet ed work at the Fort Worth Sem inary. will be guest preacher at the Spring Branch Church Sunday. VACATIONING Mr. and Mrs. Clarence McLamb are vacationing at Long Beach. Mrs. Kate Wiggins, Mrs. Fannie Glen Godwin, all white floral arrangement flank ed by candles in silver candelabra. Mrs. William Pearsall Jr. Mrs. Carl Fitchett Jr. and Mrs. William S. Tart served block ice cream cen tered with a green wedding bell, decorated cakes, nuts, and mints. Those calling were directed from the dining room by Miss Blanche Grantham and Mrs. Bam Ausley. Mrs. William C. Lee and Mrs. George Franklin Blaioc-u received at the door to the den, where Mrs. T. H. Sansom and Mrs. Willard Mixon served punch from a silver bowl. Bummer flowers were used to decorate the room. Presiding at the bride’s register on the porch were Miss Jessamine Stalling and Mrs. Alton Westbrook. Ariel Methodist Church for Mrs. Lona Blanchard Knight, 64, wife of A. D. Knight of Lillington, Rt. 2. She died at her home Tuesday morning at 10:05 o’clock after a long illness. Mrs. Knight was a native and lifelong resident of Harnett Coun ty, daughter of Delia Smith Blan covered table. Miss Ruth Lewis said the good ; byes to the many guests attending 1 the party.
