of Mrs. Vernon Bass on E. Broad

Summer flowers were used
throughout tfce home.
Mrs. Ada Gordon presented the
program for the evening. She r%ad
from the 14th capter of Romans
and also read a poem, "If I. Had
Known In The Morning.”
A short business meeting fol
lowed led by Mrs. Bess, the Circle
leader.
Guests for the meeting were
Mrs. Harper Holliday of Rich
mond. Va., Mrs. Fannie Bass and
Dr. George Cuthrell.

During the social hour home
made ice crearti and chiffon cake
was served.

Miss Dorothy Hall of Erwin was
honored at a Coca-Cola party yes
terday morning from 10:30 to 11:30
at the home of Miss Margaret
Cathy. Miss Patsy Cromartie was
co-hostess.
The honoree was presented a
lovely corsage of white asters and
a gift of crystal in her chosen pat
tern by the hostesses.
Chicken salad sandwiches, ham
and cheese biscuits, potato chips,
olives and pickle sticks, cheese waf
ers, pecan tarts and Coca-Colas
were served to the guests from the

Is Honored At
Informal Party
Mrs Joel G. Layton gave an In
formal party Wednesday afternoon
at her home as a compliment to her
house guest, Mrs. James Turner
of Reidsvllle, her roommate of 53
years ago at Greensboro College.
In that time Mrs. Turner has
missed attending only eight college
commencements and is active in
alumnae-sponsored events. She
came to Llllington after attending
the annual Farm and Home Week
at North Carolina State College in
Raleigh.
Flowers in pastel shades decorated
the reception rooms where Mrs.
Layton welcomed guests and pre
sented them to Mrs. Turner. On
arrival guests were served fruit
punch in the dining room. Mrs.
Walter Lee Johnson presided at
the crystal punch bowl and the ta
ble, covered with a white cut work
cloth, also held an arrangement of
white daisies bordered ‘with eper
nettes filled with baby’s breath and
white candles.
Home-made peach ice cream, cake
squares, nuts and green and white
candies wfere served by the hostess'
daughter, Mrs. Robert W. Winston,
assisted by her sons, Robert Ward
and Joel Layton Winston.

Upon arrival, the hostess pre
sented the honoree with a corsage
of white shasta chrysanthemums
and a gift in her crystal. The
honoree's mother, Mrs. E. A. Stev
ens, was given an identical cor
sage.
j The living room was decorated
with white gladioli and long-leaf
pine bows to carry out the color mo
tif of green and white. In the din
ing room on the buffet was cen
tered an arrangement of white
gladioli, western fern, and tall white
candles tied with green ribbon.
There, the thirty-five guests were
served lime ice, bridal cakes, wed
ding bell open-face sandwiches and
nuts in miniature white parasols.
The gifts were cleverly conceal
ed behind a huge white crepe paper
parasol.
Sgt. and Mrs. Leslie Giles, and
Bill visited Portsmouth and Rich
mond, Va. last week. They also
spent some time in Washington,
D. C.

Miss Spivey Honored At
Party In Elizabethtown
Miss Dorothy Spivey, who on
September 2 will become the bride
of. Glenn Hooper, Jr., of Dunn,
was honored at a Coca Cola hour
from 4 to 6 Monday in Elizabeth
town given by Mrs. H. L. Kendall
and Mrs. Cecil Edge at the Ken
dall's new home in the Forest
Hills section.
The bridal color scheme of
green and white was carried out
throughout the home. An attrac
tive arrangement of white car
nations and fern centered the
dining room table. A five branch
ed candelabrum holding lighted
tapers was also used.
The honoree was presented a
lovely shoulder corsage of carna
tions and a Lazy Suzan by the
hostesses.
After being served cakes, sand
wiches, cookies, ham biscuit a:**l
ribbon sandwiches the guests were
sealed throughout, the house.
Mrs. E. B. Beasley and Mrs.
Leslie Giles visited in Sumter, S.
C. Tuesday.

Club when it met last night at the
home of Mrs. G. C. Mitchell on W.

Arrangements of baby zinnias
and roses were used in decoration.
Club high award, a Revlon set,
was wen by Mrs. James Yates and
Mrs. Tommy Harrall was present
ed candy for tallying second high
score. Cotton string gloves were
to Mrs. Paul L. Strickland,
Jr., for compiling the highest guest
score.
Apple pie with ice cream was ser
ved after two progressions of bridge
had been played.

Harry Dorman, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Weldon Dorman and Miss
Irene Graeber, daughter of Mr.

tained on their fourth and seventh
birthdays, respectively, Monday
afternoon at 3:30.
Games were played on the lawn
before the guests gathered
the beautifully appointed party
table which held the two pink,
white and green birthday cakes and
sang Happy Birthday.
Mrs. Ruby Wood assisted with
the games and In serving the
children ice cream, cake, and nuts.
All of the guests were given toy
frogs and colorful balloons as
party favors.

for the occasion.
