opening of the Four-County Fair
here last night despite a heavy

the opener had been rained out
Two or three of the large tents
were badly damaged in the storm,
but Chairman J. O. West said today

noon for a big night.
First-nighters expressed pleasure
last night with the attractive farm,
home, school and commercial ex
hibits on display and also with the
big midway.
Page’s Greater Shows of Wilson
are on the midway this year, which
is the largest outfit to show here
,in many years.
The free acts and fireworks were
rained out last night, but will be
presented tonight. There will be
free acts every night and fireworks
again on Wednesday and Friday,
nights.

WORKED IN DUNN
Riley graduated from Skipper

Hill and then began newspaper work
in Dunn. After a short wuiie, ue
went to Nashville to become editor
of The Nashville Graphic for three
and a half years. In 1937, he went
to the staff of the Raleigh paper.
During World War n, he served
In the Marine Corps for four years
and made an exceptionally fine rec
ord. He rase from private to the
rank of Captain.
Riley married the former Nets
Lee Townsend of Farmville. They
have two sons, John Randolph
and Lewis Cooper.

A 1960 Ford operated by Mrs.
Thelma Fowler, 41, of Erwin,
crashed Into the back of the tractor
and struck the man and both the
children.
Mrs. Fowler told Patrolman Will
iam O. Grady and Corporal Will

Mrs. Fowler was taken to Good
Hope Hospital at Erwin with a
fractured skull and lacerations

Trice was brought to the Dunn

broken left leg and other injuries
