Passes to the Peerless Theatre were awarded to the following be ginners in swimming: Thurman Faircloth, Herman Faircloth, Ran dy Wicker, Jerry Williams, Larry Odom, Bob Snorris, and Bill Hud son. A race for 7 to 10 year olds was won by Thurman Faircloth and | from 1 through 12 years by Robert , Dennis. Underwater races were won by Robert Dennis and‘Walter I JFj-ris, Jr. approximately 35 girls and boys learned to swim during the three mdnth period with instruction in , diving and swimming given by Mrs. Byron Stevens, Johnnie Pe- Cara, and Elmer McCaskill. ERWIN PERSONALS Leaves For Nurses Training Daphine Matthews left Monday for Charlotte Memorial Hospital in Charlotte where she will enter training. In Tarboro Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Paul hopes “Sparky" will have better luck. (International Sound photo) Former Sampson €ourt Clerk Is Buried Monday Clinton—Clarence L. Fisher, 59, died Saturday night at 8:30 o'clock at the Sampson Memorial Hospital of which he was a member of the board of trustees, after a two months illness. He was active in church and po- | litical circles. Born in Roseboro Community, he lived in this coun ty all his life. He was a veteran of World War One and a member of the Junior Order of American Mechanics. He was secretary and treasurer of the Roseboro Baptist Church, and postmaster of that city for several years. He was clerk of Sampson Coun ty Superior Court for eight years, chairman of the Sampson County Republican Committee in the 1940 s i and assistant to the Eastern > 1C arol i n a Republican Executive Committee as organizer. He had Just accepted the position as as sistant tax collector of the county at the time of his hospitalization. ,He was a graduate of Campbell College. Funeral rites were held at the Clinton Baptist Church, of which he was a member, Monday at 3 p. m. Burial was in the Clinton Cem etery. Services were conducted by his pastor, the Rev. W. P. Milne, assisted by the Rev. M. C. Mac- Queen of the Clinton Presbyterian Church and the Rev. G. N. Ashley of Salemburg. » Surviving are his wife; one son. Clarence Graham; four daughters, Ellen, Jane, Joe Meeks of the home, and Mrs. John Sikes of . Richmond, Va.; his stepmother two sisters, Mrs. Z. T. Matthews of Rocky Mount and Mrs. H. D.
