Howard, it was announced today by J. E. (Fate) Williams, Consul Commander of the Erwin Camp and an officer of the Capitol District Log Rolling Association of the W. O. W. Wiliams stated that Dr. Carter", has been a member of the W. O. W. for twenty years. He is a State offl- | cer, director of Public Relations, Chaplain of the Capitol District log Rolling Association of the W. O. W. and also a field representative of the.Bociety. Williams statea that while the group was honoring Dr. Carter for his 20 years as pastor of the church, that on the same date Colliers Chapel was observing its 75th An niversary and several members of the Erwin and Dunn Camps are members of Colliers Chapel, and it Would be an opportunity to share pt ' ™ A BIRTHDAY CAKE FOR THE MOVIE INDUSTRY Hollywood stars who visited Dunn yesterday to participate in the ‘Movietime, U. 8. A.” celebration were presented a big, beautiful birthday cake in observance of the Golden Anniversary of the theatre. The presentation was made by D. B. Register, standing behind mike on behalf of the local theatres and Dunn-Rite Bakery. Glenn White, owner of the fine local bakery, made the cake. Linden Church Plans Annual Homecoming Final plans for the annual Home coming and the celebration of the 75 Anniversary of Colliers Chapel Community Church near Linden, have been made and services will begin Sunday morning, October 14, at 11 A. M., and continue until mid afternoon, with a picnic dinner during the lunch hour in the Church grove. The Homecoming sermon will be delivered by Dr. Wm. Howard Carter of Goldsboro, Pastor of the*, Church. The Honorable William B. Um- I stead of Durham, N. C., former ■ Congressman and U. S. Senator,! and now a candidate for Governor, I l will speak at 2:30 P. M. Colliers Chapel Church Is one of the oldest churches in this sec n;„-rt was or ßanized September 20, 1876, by the late Reverend James Tumage. The first officers of the Church were I. W. Herring, Deacon; James Raynor, Clerk; and Elijah Patter, Treasurer. For several years, before the erection of the present Church building, the congregation worship ped In the community school build ing. The Church property was do nated by the late Billy Collier. Land was also given by the Collier family for the Church cemetery and dur ing the past ten years, the Collier family has gjven an additional .one-half acre of land for the cemetery, and Mr. Jesse Byrd has also given land, for the enlarging of the Church cemetery. FORMER PASTOR Former Pastors include Revs. William Byrd, John McLemore, Lunda Lee, James Strickland, Robert Jackson, Andrew Hodges, C. A. Jackson, Hannibal Jernigan, 1 J. A. Blaylock, Charlie Johnson, Henry H. Goff, . Luther Davis, E. W. Price, Ruffin Johnson, K. D. Brown, J. A. Wallace, and Dr. Carter, the present Pastor. Dr. Carter began serving the Church by a unanimous invitation of the Church membership the first of November, 1931, and this Home coming will mark his 20 Anniver sary as Pastor of the Church. Among the accomplishments has been the placing of a new brick foundation under the Church to replace the large rocks used In the erectiqn of the Church. New cement and brick steps across the front of the Church have been added. . A new metal roof has been placed on the auditorium, the old plaster has been removed and new ceiling placed on the walls of the Church j instead. A new floor has been laid and the Church has been wired for ! electric lights. The Church has j ueen painted inside, as well as the exterior. Several years ago a set [ of pulpit chairs were presented by Dr. and Mrs. Carter, and. Mrs. i Harold K. Thomas.' In recent weeks the floors have been sanded and finished, and carpet has been placed In the Church at the cost of nearly SSOO. Woodall, who Is chairman of the drive. The drive will start at 2:00 pm. Sunday. Erwin resident are urged to have any waste paper which they w*sh to contribute, placed prominently on their front porch for the boys to pick up. The boys hope to Col lect a good portion of a carload dur ing this drive. Robert Pace of Morrisville called a meeting of students to form a “Young Conservatives club,” first to back the administration.
