FRIDAY AFTERNOON, OCTOBER 12, 1951 ERWIN SOCIETY JOYCE LEE CELEBRATES HER TENTH BIRTHDAY AT ERWIN Joyce Lee celebrated her tenth birthday with a party at her home Thursday afternoon at four o’clock. . • During the afternoon the group enjoyed outdoor games and Joyce opened her gifts. Later Mrs. Lee invited everyone into the, dining room for refresh ments. The table was covered with a white cloth and centered with the pretty pink and green birth day cake. After the guests had sung "Happy Birthday," refreshments, consisting of cake, potato chips, ritz crackers, cookies and ice cream were served. Those present included Helen Dennis, Stephanie Taylor Judy Williams, Julie Von Beasley, Willie Carrol Westbrook, Mike Beard, Jac kie Johnson, Wanda and Eddei Lee. TOP VALUE! Harrington attended Group Confer ence of District Number One of Baptist Class At Erwin Has Annual Meeting Members of Ruth Bible l Class of the First Baptist Church held their annual class officer clinic at the home of their teacher. Miss Etta Hall, Monday evening. Prior to the meeting the hostess and her mother, Mrs. L. D. Hall, served an informal dinner at 7 o’clock. The table was covered with an imported open work linen cloth and the table was lighted with candles in crystal candelabra. The delicious dinner consisted of a citrus fruit salad, broiled ham, deviled eggs, English peas, string beans, pickles, olives, iced tea and chocolate fudge cake. Following the dinner the busi ness session and clinic was held, after which the meeting adjourned. the Women of the Presbyterian Church at Bluff Church in Wade i last week Presbyterian Ladies At Erwin Convene The executive board meeting of the Women Os the Presbyterian Church was held Monday evening at the Manse. Mrs. R. M. Phillips, president, presided over the meeting which she opened with prayer. In the absence of the secretary, the roll was called by Mrs. C. E. Raiford. Mrs. J. C. Graham gave the treasurer’s report. During the session, plans were formulated for Home Missions Sea son, which runs from October the Bth through Npvember the Ath. The book review for the month, which is "By Faith.” will be- held at the home of Mrs. E. H. Lasater, Sr., on November the 2nd. The Bible Study for the month, the Book of James, will be held at the church on October the 29th and will be given by Mrs. S. J. Clark. Mrs. Phillips announced that next week would be Church Paper Week, and that the ch&ir would be enter tained on Wednesday evening by the Women of the Church. Mrs. K. W. ' Lillington Social | Church Circles At Lillington Hold Meeting Circles of the Women of the Lillington Presbyterian Church, which met in regular session on Tuesday afternoon and night, re ceived favorable comment on the recent district conference held here on DOctober 4 with which they assisted. At that time, around 130 visitors, chiefly women Vho belong to night circles in districts 1.2, 1 and 8 of the Fayetteville Presbytery, at tended the meeting. Supper was served at the Lill ington ■ Community House by the •local Presbyterian women. The program, featuring inspirational addresses and reports of conference officers followed at the church. Tables were decorated with' mock oranges, persimmons and sprays of ivy, while long leaf pine festooned the bhick mantel. Chicken salad, accessories, coffee and cup cakes were served. Mrs. W. E. Salmon was dinner chairman. Miss Lois J. Lamphie of Red Springs, district chairman, preside 3 and chef speakers were Mrs. Lacy Godwin, president of the women, in the Fayetteville Presbytery, arid Mrs. Gerald Wright, both of Fay etteville. They talked on the twin topics, "Faith and Works,” a theme which was emphasized at all end of-the year church meetings. Mrs. Julian Hutaff of Fayette ville, who is president of the women in the North Carolina Synod was a special guest. She is also a mem ber of the advisory board of the Southern Presbyterian Church. < Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lewis and son, Frankie, left Holman Air Force Base near Alamagarde, New Mexicvo this week for a return to Lillington. Ml\ Lewis has comple ted his- enlistment in the Air Force. The Lewises plan a vacation in Colorado Springs, colo., and also Scott College, Ga„ spent the week end with her pare Ats.
