Open House Held

At Hubert Peays
Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Peay and
Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Harrell en
tertained at a holiday open house
Friday night from 8 till 10 o’clock.
The party was at the Peay home.
Decorations carried out the
Christmas and New Year motif. In
the receiving hall, silvered foliage
and candles were used. The living
room mantel was graced with, an
arrangement of greenery, candles,
and plastic snow balls. From the
chandelier was suspended a mistle
toe basket.

The refreshments consisted of
hot punch, chicken salad sand
wiches, cheese biscuits, open faced
sandwiches, and fruit cake squares
topped with whipped cream and
cherries.

Orace Evangelical and Reformed
Church of Newton.
The Rev. R. F. Hall, father of
the bridegroom, officiated, assist
ed by Rev. T. M. Shoffner, pastor
of the church. The vows were spo
ken before an altar arrangement
of Kentla palms, Oregon fern and
southern smilax interspersed with
large altar baskets filled with white
gladioli, snapdragons and chrysan
themums, and seven-branched
wrought iron candlelabra holding
lighted white Cathedral tapers.
Family pews were marked with
white satin ribbon. --
Mrs. Winnie Simpson, organist,
and Rev. Roy E. Leinbach, bari
tone, presented a program of nup
tial music. Mrs. Simpson played
"Intermezzo" by Provost, “Ich |
Liebe Dich" by Grieg, “To a Wild
Rose” by MacDonald, “To an Eve
ning Star” by Wagner, “My Heart
at Thy Sweet Voice” by Balnt-
Saens, and “Through the Years”
by Heyman and Youmans. As tHe
candles were lighted by Edward
and Frank Schrum, brothers of
the bride, Mrs. Simpson played “O
Perfect love” by Barnby on' the
chimes. Rev. Leinbach sang “Oh
Promise Me” by DeKoven and
“Calm As the Night” by Bohm.
During the ceremony the organist
played “Libestraum” by Llzt and
after the benediction Rev Lein
bach sang “The Lord’s Prayer" by
Malotte. The wedding march from
said goodbyes.
Around 140 guests called during
the evening.

tiered finger-tip veil was a candle
light circlet of French Imported
handmade Princess lace add was
worn with a pearl studded calot.
The bride’s only ornament. 'Was a
cameo brooch, an heirloom of the
family worn by her maternal grand -
j mother. She carried a semi-cascade
bouquet of white gladioli, Hly-of
the-valley, and French Illusion cen
tered with a white orchid.
Miss Jacquelyn Vere Thompson
of Wilmington, college roommate
of the bride, was maid of honor.
She wore a gown of fire opal faille
fashioned with strapless draped
bodice outlined with French scrol
ling topped with brief Victorian
capelet. The skirt, made full witft
back inverted pleats, accented the
slender waistline. Her head dress
was an ashes-of-roses ostrich tip.
Short white gloves completed her
costume. She carried a semi-cas
cade bouquet, similar to the bride’s,
of shaded camellias, feathered car
nations. and pom-pon chrysanthe
mums in delicate shades of pink
tipped with silver.

Evening Worship
Student Recognition night was
observed last evening at 7:30 In
the Dunn First Baptist Church.
Abe Elmore, Wake Forest College,
was the presiding college student.
Miss Jennie Barbour, Meredith
College, read the scripture and
prayed the opening prayer.
Mr. Elmore recognized all of the
college students and all of the ser
vicemen present and introduced the
speakers.
The messages, which were all
centered around the general theme,
“How Can I Serve Christ?” were
presented in the following order:
“Through the Ministry" by Earl
Davis Farthing, Wake Forest Col
lege: “Through the Service” by
Carroll Barbour of the U. S. Navy,
San Diego, Calif.; and “Through
My Vocation" by Miss Rosalyn
Poole, Meredith College.

dered a vocal solo, “My Task” dur
ing the first part of the service.
She was accompanied by Mrs. C.
C. Upchurch at the organ.
Stacy Johnson, Elon College, was
chief usher.
