place on April 19th in the Divine Street- Methodist Church In

At Book Club Meet
The Thursday Afternoon Book
Club met at the home of Mrs. N.
M. Johnson-, Sr.. on Wednesday
afternoon at the Johnson home
on W. Broad St. at 3:30.
The Johnson home was most
beautifully appointed with striking
arrangements of red gladiolus and
tulips adding a colorful note for
the enjoyable occasion.
The dining room table was cen
tered with a lovely arrangement of
i pink carnations flanked with tall
, burning
the club /oloj]s of pink and green.
The refreshments were served
buffet style with Mrs. Lloyd Wade
serving Ice cream and Mrs. O.
Mattox pouring coffee. The guests
served themselves delicious cocoa
nut logs and salted nuts.
A short business session was held
after which Mrs. J. Lloyd Wade,
speaker for the occasion gave a
most interesting sketch of the life
and achievements of “Artur Rub
enstein, planish” Following this
there was a half hour of record
ings by the great composer.
Mrs. E. J. Hill of Faison was
a guest for the afternoon. Mem

Bridge Club and guests were de
lightfully entertained when they
met at the home of Mrs. Willard
Burrage last night for an evening
of bridge.
Gay potted plants and greenery
in attractive containers made a
colorful setting for the club’s meet
ing.
Inuring play assorted candies
and coca-colas were passed. After
scores were compiled the hostess
served trays of delicious santfc
| wiches, cookies and coffee.

Mrs. Duncan Wins
Two Prizes At
Novus Club Meet
Mrs. R A. Duncan, Jr., was the
winner of both the high score
award and the traveling prize last
night when Mrs. James Buries en
tertained members of the Novus
Bridge Club at her home on North
McKay Ave.
A lovely bouquet of quince and
other flowering shrubs made a col
orful display in the living room.
During the play, Mrs. Surles ser
yed doughnuts and coffee, and af
ter the scores had been tabulated,
she served ice cream roll topped
with whipped cream and a cherry,
salted nuts and mints.
Mrs. Duncan received a most at
tractive potted plant for her wlnnirt
s-'ore, and the traveling prize was a
plaque.
Mrs. Hazel Joyner, a guest for
the evening, was remembered with
a gift from the hostess.

Thursday evening to members of
the Merry Matrons Canasta Club I
at the home ,of her mothers, Mrs.
Jessie Capps.
Greenery and gay pot plants
were used in the home for the en
joyable evening of Canasta and the
tables of play were centered with
beautiful rose and white camellias
in tiny crystal bowls for the des
sert course. A Valentine motif was
carried out in the decorations.
During play the hostess served
assorted candies, pop corn and ROft
drinks. After scores were compiled
delicious pecan tarts, ice cream an
coffee were served.
