OYACH-SEXTON WEDDING VOWS
ARE SPOKEN AT FAYETTEVILLE

daughter of Mrs. Annie L. Sexton,
and the late Mr. Sexton, of Dunn,
became the bride of • Sgt. John
Paul Oyach, son of Valentine
Oyach and the late Mrs. Oyach,
of Gwanda, N. Y„ on Saturday
evening at eight o’clock. The cere
mony took place at the home of
Col. and Mrs. D. M. Derrick, 1901

A program of nuptial music was
presented by Ernest Geddie, pian
ist, and Mrs. Harold Russell, soloist

Mr. Oeddie played “To A Wild
Rose" (McDowell), "Venetian Love
Song” (Nevin), and “Prelude In
A Major” (Chopin), Mrs. Russell
sang “I Love Thee” (Grieg), and
“Because” (dUardlot.l The tradi
tional wedding marches were used.
A background of paints, fern,
and baskets of white chrysanthe
mums, carnations, and gladioli,
formed a setting for the speaking
of vows. Seven-branch candelabra
held burning tapers.
The bride was given in marri
age by Col. Derrick. She was at
tired in a gown of white chantilly
lace fashioned with a strapless bo
dice, topped with a long sleeved
lace bolero jacket featuring a Peter
Pan collar. The full lace skirt was
ballerina length. She wore a match
ing juliet cap and carried a bou
quet of pink orchids and pink car
nations.
Mrs. Derrick was matron of hon
or. She wore a blue lace and net
gown fashioned with a strapless
lace bodice, net stole and full bal
lerina skirt. She wore a matching
headdress of pleated net and car
ried a 1 bouquet of pastel flowers.
Sgt. Oyach had Cpl. Harold L.
Sayler as best man. Sgt. Robert D.
Powers was usher.
Mrs. Sexton, mother of the
bride, wore a gown of plum lace,
with matching accessories, and a
lavender orchid.
The guests were invited into the
dining room following the cere
mony.
The bride’s table was covered
with an imported lace-and-cut
work cloth and centered with an
arrangement of white snapdrag
gons, bride’s roses and carnations,
flanked with silver candelabra and
burning tapers, r decorated three
tiered wedding cake, topped with
a miniature bride and groom grac
ed one end of the table, and a crys
tal punch bowl, the other.
Mrs. J. R. Young served the
wedding cake after the bride and
groom cut the first slice. 1 Mrs.
Robert Horton served punch. Misses
Jeannette Young and Sonja Der
rick served bridal mints and salted
nuts. Mrs. Elizabeth Kuhn presid
ed over the bride’s book.
Later in the evening Sgt. and
Mrs. Oyach left for an unan
nounced honeymoon destination.
Upon their return they will be at
home at 1910 Bragg Boulevard.
For traveling, Mrs. Oyach wore
a plum suit with gray accessories.
Her corsage wag an orchid from
her bridal bouquet.
Mrs. Oyach, prior to her mar
riage had made her home in Fay
etteville for several years, and is
associated with the J. R. Young
Construction Company. Sgt. Oyach
is in the Third Army Area Food
Service School at Fort Bragg.
Out-of-town guests present for
the wedding were Mrs. Aixiie L.

The Women of the Church of
the Grove Presbyterian Church
met Tuesday evening at eight o’-
clock at the home of Mrs. James
Bryant.
The meeting was called to or
der by the president, Mrs. Lorman
Lee after which the group enter
ed into silent prayers concluded
by the president, Mrs. Lee.
Mrs. Johnnie Jackson called the
roll and the secretary, Mrs. Wil
bert Lee read the minutes of the
last meeting and they were ap
proved.
Mrs. R. B. Mondp invited the

After ’ a brief business session,
during which the nominating com
mittee was instructed to select of
ficers for the coming year and be
able to report at the March meet
ing. The ladies sang together

This scripture was read by Mrs.

prayer. The topic for the evening
was “Some Ready-Made Patterns.”
Mrs. James Bryant led in an
interesting discussion on the Chris
tian, the Community and the
Kingdom. Mrs. Junior Core spoke
on what is going on for the good
of our community and how the wo*
men of the church can help.

on “The Lords Leading.” Mrs.
Bryant left this thought with the

room of the home. The french doors
leading into the dining room were
r utllned in gay ruffled white qrepe
paper with red hearts. A lovely
centerpiece of jonquils and quince
were used on the dinning table.
The hostess served a delicious
dessert course when the group ar
rived consisting of ice cream in the
shapes of hearts with cupids,
cocoanut cake, cashew nuts and
coffee. During play soft drinks and
cheese wafers were passed.
The club high for the evening
went to Mrs. James Yates when
scores’were tallied, she’received a
silve ash tray from.the hostess. A
novelty china ash tray went to
Mrs. John Snipes for guest high.
Consolation prize, tea towels were
received by Mrs. Mac Andrews. A
box of Valentine candy went to
Mrs. G. C. Mitchell for traveling
prize.
Guests for the enjoyable evening
were Mrs. James Snipes, Mi's. Mac
Andrews, Mrs. John Snipes and
Mrs. Leon McKay.
