at tlie S and W. a visit to the Museum, the Hall of History the News and Observer and the radio station completed the the tour.

SECTION VI. CONSTRUCTION
OR DEMOLITION OF BUILD
INGS. Every person, building con
tractor, or sub-contractor engaged
in the construction, repair or
. demolition of any building or
1 structure or part thereof, shall
remove and dispose of. in an au
thorized manner, from any Street,
• alley, gutter, park, sidewalk, curb
ing, curb space, any public way
or any premises not owned by him
all waste matter or rubbish depos
ited thereon in connection with
that portion of the repair, con
struction or demolition work under
his special or general supervision.
A. Such refuse, waste matter and
rubbish shall be cleaned up, re
moved, and disposed of in a sani
tary manner within seven days of
the final cessation of work on such
building or structure unless specif
ically authorized by the Building
Inspector or Superintendent of
Sanitation.
B. Such waste matter and rub
bish shall not be placed on the
sidewalk for town trucks to gnove,
but, 4jali be moved by the .con
tractor or sub-contrSctorArho caus
ed the same to be formed.
SECTION VII. LAND. No per
son. owner, agent or occupant of
a lot or premises whereon a build
ing of any kind may exist or of a
vacant lot shall allow any collec
tion of garbage, rubbish, waste
matter, or filth of any description
to remain of such lot or premises
after being notified by the Super
intendent of Sanitation to remove
the same.
SECTION Vm. STANDARDS
FOR THE ACCUMULATION OF
REFUSE. The following standards
and requirements are established
as a minimum for the sanitary
accumulation and storage of refuse
pending Its removal by the collec
tors of the Town of Dunn.
A. OCCUPANTS IN CHARGE OF
BUSINESS BUILDINGS.
1. Occupants of business buildings
shall store and keep stored all
refuse or garbage accumulating in
said building or on its premises in
metal receptacles which shall com
pletely confine such refuse or gar
bage pending its removal.
EXCEPTIONS: Business firms
having large volumes of cardboard
'boxes will cut apart, straighten
out, crush or stack such boxes into
compact packages or bundles and
secure with binding material such
as string or cord so that such
bundles or packages will remain
compactly bound to allow for easy
handling in collecting.
2. The occupant of any business
establishment will provide at his
own expense the number of ap
proved containers required to con
tain the accumulated refuse or
other waste material resulting
, from his business operations.
3. The lid must be chained or
tied with a rope with a detachable
fastener (such! as a bridle snap)
to the container so that the lid
brill not be lost or blown away or
otherwise destroyed. Where lids
have been previously lost, dam
aged, or destroyed, they are to be
replaced With appropriate metal or
, wooden lids.
4. Portable metal- receptacles of
standard galvanized, water tight

quired. The size of the receptacle
shall not be less than 10 gallons
nor more than 33 gallons capacity.
Receptacles not complying with
the foregoing regulations, such as
wooden or paper barrels, tubs, paint
buckets, tanks, lard cans, or of
such nature, are hereby prohibited.
Defective receptacles must be re- i
placed Immediately.
5. It shall be unlawful to place
on the streets, sidewalks, alleys, '
or other public thoroughfares in
the Town of Dunn in the fire i
district any cardboard boxes, paper. ]
wooden crates, debris, or other 1
packing materials, except that such i
materials be placed in approved i
containers. Such containers must i
be of such quantity and size to hold I
at least one day’s accumulation of i
rubbish or refuse. The occupant
shall be responsible for furnishing 1
the necessary containers and com- '
plying with the ordinance as to i
their proper use.

be picked up by appropriate meth
ods and placed in approved con- <
tainert. To sweep such trash onto I
the sidewalk, gutter, or street Ja <
hereby prohibited.
7. Owner must place his con
tainer or containers at the nearest
designated location indicated for
garbage pickup Station on or be
fore the hour designated for pickup
at that particular station. ,
B. HOUSEHOLDERS:
1. The occupant of any house,
apartment, or part of a house used
as a separate place of abode shall
cause all garbage collected therein
or arising from the use thereof to ,
be placed ' in- water-tight, rodent- !
proof and dog-proof receptacles of :
the type specified by this ordi- -
nance. ’•
2. Occupants must furnish as
many approved receptacles as need
ed to hold at least one (1) week’s !
accumulation of garbage.
3. Receptacles must have well
fitting lids, so as to make them
rain-proof. The lids are to be
chained, or tied with ropes to
metal or wooden stakes higher
than the container so that the
lids will not blow away from the
area and be lost or destroyed.
Where lids have been previously
lost, damaged or destroyed they
are to be replaced with appropri
ate metal or wooden lids.
4. Occupants shall take every
opportunity to put wet garbage
from the kitchen in paper sacks
or wrap in newspapers and tie the
same with string so as to facilitate
easier handling and emptying of
the garbage containers.
5. Occupants are not to place
more refuse than can be contained
in the number of approved re
ceptacles available. Such materials
as tree branches, shrubbery trim- l .
mings. box crates, or other refuse
of wood must be sawed up, broken
up, or crushed into such small
pieces as will go into the available
containers, if such materials will
not go into available containers,
then the responsibility for their
removal lies with the owner or
occupant aryl not with the Town
of Dunn or any department there
under.
6. Receptacles mutt be placed in
approved types of metal, wooden,
concrete or other type of racks so
that they may not be turned over,

by dogs. Otherwise receptacles
must be placed in approved un
derground containers as sold by
certain manufacturers so that they
become dog-proof to the extent
that dogs cannot molest the con
tents therein. -
7. Turned over receptacles are
the responsibility of the owner or
occupant to replace refuse back in
the container and not the respon
sibility of the collectors of the
Town of Dunn.
SECTION IX. Any person, firm,
or corporation violating any of the
provisions of this Ordinance shall
be guilty of a misdemeanor, and
upon conviction thereof be fined
$25.00 or imprisoned for ten days;
and each day upon w ( hich viola
tions accrue shall be * a separate
and distinct offense.
SECTION X. All Ordinances or
parts of Ordinances in conflict
with the provisions of this ordi
nance are hereby repealed.
SECTION XI. This Ordinance
shall be in full force and effect
