To Sewing Group
Tuesday In Erwin
Mrs. H. Q. Beard was hostess to
the members of the night sewing
bee of the Woman’s Auxiliary of
St. Stephens Episcopal Church last
night at 7;30.
These ladles are very busy making
articles for their bazaar in the
fall, and the people of Erwin and
surrounding communities should be
able to meet all their gift problems
when they visit the bazaar in Nov
ember.
During the evening Mrs. Beard
served delicious doughnuts and
coffee to: Mrs. A. H. Harper, Mrs.
George Eamshaw, Mrs. Louis Dear
born, Mrs. Byron Stevens, Mrs.

Presbyterian Group
Meets T uesday With
Mrs Whittington
Members of Circle numhe* three
of the Presbyterian Church held
their regular meeting which was
a supper at the home of Mrs. Stacy
Whittington Tuesday evening at
6:SO o’clock.
Each member brought "pot luck”
and the supper was served buffet
style.
The dining room table was cov
ered with a handsome white linen
cloth and centered with a bowl of
yellow bells and Jonquils which ad
ded a spring like atmosphere to
the occasion.
The supper consisted of baked
ham, fried chicken, potato salad,
deviled eggs, assorted sandwiches,
olives, pickles, rolls, devil food cake,
pecan pie, ice cream, coffee and
coca-colas.
Following supper the regular
meeting was held.
Mrs. Clarence Julian presided
and Mrs. E. H. Lasater had prayer.
Mrs. 8. J. Clark gave a very in
spiring devotional entitled "These
Things Are Mine.”
Mrs. Lasater was in charge of
the program which was on “Evan
gelism.''
During the business period Mrs.
Julian announced that “Spiritual
Enrichment Week would be obser
ved April 6-12. JPlans were also
made to remember the circles shut
ins-and for the fellowship supper.
The circle members then pre
sented Mrs. Julian a gift for her
splendid leadership as chairman
for the past year.

weekend at her parents hoqje near
Lillington.

H. Hugh Altvater, 54, dean of
the Woman's College School of Mu-

vices will be held Wednesday at

boro, and burial will follow in
Guilford Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife and two

vater, both of Greensboro, who are
married to the former Misses Aim
and Mary Byrd Johnson of Lilling
ton. His parents and three grand
daughters also survive. A native of
Michigan, Dean Altvater had lived

W. E. Moore returned during the
weekend from a trip to Hot Springs,
Ark. Mr. Moore accompanied Dewey
Cline, Raleigh contractor, to Hot
Springs where the latter remained
to undergo treatment.

Spooks” which will be presented on
Friday night, March 14, at 8 pan.
