MONDAY AFTERNOON, APRIL 21, 1952 JUST-A-MERE GARDEN CLUB ENTERTAINS HUSBANDS * The members of the Just-A-Mere Garden Club entertained their hus bands at a dinner party on Thurs day night, April 17 at 7 p. m, in the Mingo School lunch room. The room was beautifully deco rated for the occasion with dog wood and spirea. The tables held arrangements of mixed spring flow ers. Mrs. Luby Warren, club presi dent, welcomed the guests and Mr. N. E. Jones responded. A delicious menu consisting of fruit juice cocktail, fried chicken, creamed potatoes, corn aiid bnt terbeans, salad, hot rolls, tea, ice cream and cake was served by Mrs. Earl Lockamy and her home eco nomics girls. After dinner Mrs. Sam Strick land, Jr. introduced Mr. Julian Metts of Fayetteville who enter tained the group by playing several musical selections on glass goblets. Those enjoying the delightful af fair were Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Barefoot, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis But ler, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Lee, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Early, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Alton Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. M/ss Jeon Clinfton May Bride-Elect, Feted At Party Miss Jean Clifton, May 4th bride elect of Corp. Bill Larsen was graciously complimented at a miscellaneous shower last Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Carl ton Barefoot with Mrs. E. G. Clif ton and Mrs. Frank Clifton as co hostesses for the affair. The home of the hostess was most attractively arranged with bouquets of purple and white iris, mixed I colored tulips and white narcissus being used. The guests and honoree enjoyed appropriate games during the eve ning with Mrs. Bob Wagstaff and Mrs. Joe Wilkins receiving prizes as the winners in several contests. Delicious refreshments of lime 1 ices, bridal cakes, toasted nuts and mints were served by the hostes ses. Miss Clifton received many at tractive gifts from the group and the hostesses presented her with a lovely carnation corsage. Those attending the shower were Miss Clifton, Mrs. R. E. WALTER FLOYD FURR IN CHURCH RITES In a formal ceremony on Satur day evening at eight o’clock in the Divine Street Methodist Church, Miss Linda Godwin, daughter cf Mr. and Mrs. Olive Watson God win, Sr., of Dunn, was married to Mr. Walter Floyd Furr of Dunn, sotr dt Mr. and 1 MrS. Albert Flojrd Furr of Gastonia, formerly of Con cord and Dunn. The Rev. Joyce V Early, pastor of the church, heard the marriage vows of the double ring ceremony. A nuptial background was cre ated with white lilies, snapdragons, fern, palms and tall seven-branch ed candelabra. The choir loft was TKR DAILY RECORD, DUNN. N. C. banked with palms, and candles in gothic design, gave the only light in the church. The altar was bank ed with fern and the open Bible on the pulpit was used as a center for j a sunburst arrangement of white lilies and gladioli. White and shrimp bows marked reserved pews. Mrs. Mack Jernigan, organist, and Mrs. Lester Lloyd Coats, Jr., vocalist, presented a program of nuptial music. Escorted and given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white nylon tulle over slipper satin with Swiss embroid ered renaissance lace, hand appli qued with oats and seed pearls on the bodice, skirt and sleeves. The long shirred sleeves came to points over her hands and buttoned with tiny buttons. The bouffant • tulle skirt was fashioned with a long cathedi'al train. Her mantMla- type veil, .draped closely to the head, was cathedral length in queen’s lace pattern from France. She car ried a crescent-shaped bouquet composed of three white orchids showered with orange blossoms. Miss Margaret John Godwin was her sister’s maid of honor and bridesmaids were Misses Connie Hester of Ciarkton, Betty Lou j Gladstone of Norfolk, Va„ . Betty j Talley of Greenville, N. C„ and Mrs: O. B. Strickland, of Dunn. They wore identical gowns of shrimp nylon net oyer taffeta, fa shioned with strapless bodices, net pet capes, mitts, and hats. Then shoes were in matching shades and they carried arm bouquets of talis man roses anil gerber daisies. Honorary bridesmaids .were Miss Nora Ellen Faulkner of K:nston, 1 Miss Brucie Dickey, Mrs:. Talisman rcses were used ef fectively in the arrangements in order to continue the color scheme used in the church, and in the bridal parties’ bouquets arid gowns. At opposite corners of the table were silver candelabra holding white tapers and white bridal bou quets with streamers knotted with tiny: sprays of gypsophilia. Rose buds were used at the base of the silver compotes holding the bridal mints. Lovely white arrangements were used on the service tables. The mantle was pretty with two ; large white satin hearts outlined ; covered with white tulle ruffles, | ! at the base of which Was a large i j white floral arrangement.
