TUESDAY AFTERNOON, APRIL 22, 1952 Martha Lee Is Honored On 18th Birthday In Erwin Mrs. Paul Lee entertained at a J party at the park center Saturday evening complimenting her daugh ter Martha on her 18th birthday. Mrs. E. L. Sewell and Mrs. H. S. Warren assisted her. . The club room was beautifully decorated, with bowls of spring flowers. Pink and green crepe paper streamers weie tied from the sides of the room and brought to gethei overhead. The table was covered with a white cloth and centered with the J lovely pink and green birthday ’cake, holding 18 candles. Pink tapers in crystal holders were also used on the table. The punch bowl which was placed on one end of the table was presided ovbr by Mis. Lee. Mints, salted nuts, open ace and libbon sandwiches, pick les, olives and individual cake squares were also served. The group sang “Happy Birthday” to Martha and she blew out the candles. She then opened her k many lovely gifts for everyone to see. The remainder of the evening the girls and boys enjoyed dancing to recorded music. Mrs. Willie Messer Is Hostess For Erwin Egg Hunt Mrs. Willis Messer gave a belated Easter egg hunt for her daughter Frankie at her home Friday after noon. Frankie had measles during Easter and that was the reason for the late egg hunt. During the afternoon the child ren hunted eggs and played games. Those present were: Frankie Mes ser, honoree Carolyn and Rebecca Whittington, Frank Jr., and San dra Ralph, Charlotte Crawford Judy Taylor, Debby Hall, Mary and Shiela Byrd, Margaret and Eastern Star Group From Erwin Fetes Vets At Hospital Six members of the Erwin Chap ter 230 Order ct’ the Eastern Star were hostesses to the patients at the Veterans Hospital in Fay etteville Friday evening. The ladies carried 15 homemade cakes, all baked and given by Eastern Star members, which they served the patients. Also making the trip was Ed Price and his Tar Heel Swing Billies, who gave a very entertain ing program of string music. Eastern Star members making the trip were: Mrs. Ray Luphold. Mrs. Jack Beard, Mrs. Byron Stevens, Mrs. E. L. Sewell, Mrs. Frank Norris, and Mrs. Ray D. Caldwell. Others going were “Mike” Crawford, chairman of the Dunn- Erwin Red Cross Chapter, Mrs. Grace Swain, executive secretary of the chapter. Miss Kathrine Byrd, Romona O'Quinn and Bonnie Blake. Gloria Deck, Nickie lannane, Bert Cameron, Brenda Ivey and Rudy Stephenson. Patricia Warren Has Semi-Formal Dance In Erwin Patricia Warren entertained at a semiformal dance on her 16th birthday Friday evening at the park center. She carried out a gorgeous color scheme of pink and green in the club rooms, which included crepe paper streamers on which various shaped balloons were tied, The piano was lovely with an arrange ment of dogwood and candles, and the gift table held a vase of beau tiful pink roses. . The refreshment table was cov ered with a white cloth and cen tered with a mirror. The pink and green birthday cake held on a stand was placed in the center of the mirror and was entwined with ivy, and flanked by burning tapers in crystal holders . The group sang "happy birthday” and Patricia blew out the 16 can- The Lillington's Girl Scouts Plan Event Lillington Girl Scouts will pre sent their annual May Day festi val on Wednesday, May 7, at the home of, Mr. and Mrs. O. S. At kini. Miss Jane Cranford will reign as Queen and a pageant built around the theme of the fairy story, "Hansel and Gjetal” will be presented by the Scout troops. Miss Vara Lee Thornton is serving as director of the festival. Senior Girl Scouts will serve as members of the Queen’s court and immediately afterwards the senior troop will entertain at a danqe at the Community Building. Seniors who have volunteered to give the Community pudding a spring win dow washing earlier that same week will be rewarded by free use of the building for the post-fes tival party. The May pagpant, which will be presented on the lawn of the Atkins home in the late afternoon, be open to the public without charge. Around 100 Scouts ranging in age from Brownies to seniors, will participate. Mrs, T. A. Guiton of Anderson, S. C. was a visitor in Lillington from Wednesday to Friday. Mrs, Guiton,, who is a former resident of Lillington, was the guest of Mrs. C. E. Bass and Mrs. E. C. Gastineau. dies on her cake. Mrs. V. C. Sawanson then ser-' ved punch from one end of the table. Also served were potato chips, salted nuts, mints, ham biscuits, pickles and cake squares. After Pat had opened her gifts the group enjoyed dancing to re corded music. The guest list included: Graham Stewart, Betty Ann Julian, Tommy Davis, Mary Louise Miley, Marilyn Steinberg. John Q. Beard, Peggy Warren, Patricia Whitman, Devon Stewart, Mae Cooper, Frank We aver, Suebellc Jackson, Willie Moore, Robert West, Geraldine Matthews, Betty Wren Stancil, Stacy Wood, Martha Lee and Charles Dorman, Joe Andrews “Skippy” Smith, D. B. Register, Cecil Johnson, and Bill Moody of Dunn. Chaperons for the party were: Mrs. H. S. Warren, Mrs. V. C. Swanson and Mrs. Payton Odom. Mrs. B. G Thomas Is Bridge Hostess To Erwin Group Mrs. B. G• Thomas was hostess to members of her bridge club and their husbands at her home on Old Post road Friday evening at 8 o’clock". Lovely arrangements of spring flowers were used in the living room where the table had been set up for play. During play coca-colas were pas sed and at the end of. the game chicken salad and ribbon sand wiches, stuffed dates, cheese balls, potato chips ancf coffee were ser ved. High score prize for the men went to Dr. L. W. Griffin, while Mrs. Griffin captured high for the ladies. Mrs. D. C. Woodall won the traveling prize. Those playing included: Dr. and Mrs. L. W.
