THURSDAY AFTERNOON, JUNE 26, 1952 Movie Queens Now Sport New Hair-Do HOLLYWOOD HP) Movie queens are blossoming out today in an extra-short “tomboy” hair-do that puts the poodle haircut right out of style. To be fashionably poodled, ac tresses like Esther Williams and Elizabeth Taylor had their hair cut short and curled like the noggins of . those French pooches. Now glamour girl Jan Sterling makes' them look like-long-haired ''ladies. THURSDAY ONLY dft Robert MEREDITH «itNie mi 9 pi'*d*d by WllllAM A. LOOKS LIKE CHOIR BOY \ It's so short, in fact, that her husband, Paul Douglas, cracks, "The first morning I though I'd waken up next to a choir boy.” “It all started with swimming," Jan explained. “Paul can get out of the pool and he looks fine but I always have to put my hair up in bobby pins. “So the studio hairdresser cut off seven inches of my hair. Now when I get out of the pool it looks great. “Besides,” she added, “Paul and I can go to the same-barber now.' Her Paramount Studio bosses raised an eyebrow but finally gave in. She had to leave her hair slight ly long at the sides so she can pin on false hairpieces for their next; period picture. “Pony Express.” Another devotee of the tomboy cut is actress Marian Marshall Her’s is slightly longer than Jan's, though, and combed in back like a zoot-suiter’s coiffure. “With the long length I looked like ever yother blonde in movies,” said Miss Sterling. “Now they know I’m the one with short hair. MUST BE FEMININE “I don’t know whether just any body could do this. You have to be feminine enough. Some girls, especially brunettes, might look just like boys. But I don’t think it lessens most girls’ sex appeal. If you’ve got it, you’ve got it, without hair or with." The next step after the tomboy cut will have to be the crew cut. “I don’t think I’ll go that far,” Jan said.
