Chicora Club
Opening To Be
August 13
! Plans are rapidly taking shape for
the gala opening of the Chicora
! Country Club which has been set
for Wednesday afternoon, August
13. Workmen have been busy dur
ing the past few days getting the
golf course in final conditiort and
various committees which have
been appointed by the directors are
spending much time and effort to
make the opening of the club a
gala one. The Publicity Committee,
headed by John Dalrymple, is in
charge of the opening day pro
gram and this committee has an
nounced the following schedule of
events for that date.
Leading off the day’s activities
will be a blind bogey tournament
for all members. Members may
participate in this any time that
morning up until dour o’clock in
the afternoon. At 3 o’clock there
will be a hole-in-one contest which
will be open to everyone, whether
a golfer or not. There will be
prizes given for this event. At 4
o’clock one of the highlights of
the program will be a nine hole
exhibition golf match between four
golf professionals. The pros who
have accepted to play this match
are Mr. C. C. McCuiston of Fort
Bragg, Mr. Agee Welch of the
Smithfield Club, Mr. Mel McAdams,
pro of the Forsythe Country Club
of Winston-Salem and husband of
Selene Parker of Dunn, and Mr.
Hal Jernigan the local pro. At the
conclusion of the exhibition there
will be brief ceremonies in front
of the golf shoo prior to supper.
Mr. Guyton Smith, president of the
club will speak briefly, as will Mr.
E. H. Bost, manager of the Erwin
mills. The grand finale will be a
dutch barbecue supper served by
Griffin of Goldsboro with plenty
of chicken on hand for those who
do not care for barbecue.
The committee as well as the di
rectors wish to let it be known
that everyone is invited to all of
the opening day program as it is
by no means limited to club mem
bers, The directors and club mem
bers are anxious for the general
public to visit the course and see
lust what is being done to further
the cause of better recreation fa
cilities for the community.
As for the membership of the
club Itself, It will be closed when
200 members have been secured
and the list is nearing that num
ber now. Those interested in join
ing now may do so by contacting
Mr. Earl Jones, secretary of the
club who arUJ issue tfce stock. The
directors recently voted to • close
all SIOO stock as of September Ist.
After that time only S2OO stock
certificates will be issued.
Many local golfers are using the
course daily for, practice rounds and
all are awaiting August 15th when
the official opening gets under
way. Some 30 to 40 golfers have
to. gmithflelcl^Fay
eyery week to play golf so it goes
