HARDEE before her marriage Sunday, August 31, was Miss Corene Mason, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Mason of Benson, Rt. 2. Mr. Hardee is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Delma Hardee of Benson, Rt. 3. The marriage took place in the Holly Grove Advent Christian Church near Benson. THE DAILY RECORD, DUNN, N, C, Ranch Theme Used For Family Night Social The Baptist Family Night party was held Wednesday night with a Ranch theme. Everyone came dress ed Western style. Miss Evelyn Straughan, direct or of Religious Education at the church, acted as mistress of cere monies. She was attired in full Western regalia and directed all the games. There were special games plan ned for each age group from the Nursery Children through the Ad ult group. The party was held in the base ment of the church which was de corated like a ranch. The refresh ments were served from a chuck wagon and a fence was used on one j side of the room with saddles and other equipment on it. The only light came from a camp fire which was improvised in the center of the ! rooms. ! All those present enjoyed par ticipating in such events as a Treas ure Hunt, chasing varmints, dress ing a man and a woman in crepe paper cowboy and cowgirl outfits, and in a Western Spelling Match. The Rev. Ernest Russell, pastor lof the church, led the group in a meditation before refreshments were served. He linked his mes sage with the Cowboy phrase, “The Last Round-Up” The group, led 1 by Miss Straughan and Miss Laney I Hodges, sang “Day Is Dying In ■ The West.” j These Family Night parties are | held each Wednesday night after j the fifth Sunday. | There were around 100 present for the evening. Jesse Parker Is Named President Os Couple's Class The Married Couple’s Class of j the Giad Tidings Church of Dunn ; met on Monday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Whittenton with Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Maynard as co-hosts. The meeting was called to order by President William Tyndall and the opening prayer was led by Mrs. Celon Wilson, teacher of the class. A most interesting devotional was presented by Mrs. Shelton Norris.: Her subject was “Submission To Christ.”* New officers were elected during the business session. Jessie Parker was named president for the com ing church year and Willard Tyn dall was elected vice-president. Secretary will be Mrs. Madeline Stanley and treasurer is Mrs. Silas Whittenton. Also discussed during the bus iness meeting was the party which is to be given next month for the winner in the attendance contest. The two losing teams, which are led by. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Willis and Mr. Gardner Altman and MrsJ Madeline Stanley, must fete the group led by Mrs. Ruby Frix. During the social hour games were directed by Mrs. Madeline Stanley and the hostesses served chicken salad sandwiches, pickles, caramel cake with nuts, and coca colas. There were 31 members present for the meeting. Special guest for the evening were the Rev. and Mrs. A. A. Amerine, pastor of the church, and Mr. and Mi's. Elton Martin, newcomers to Dunn. MRS. CHENAULT ILL Mrs. L. E. Chenault of Buie’s Creek is a patient in the Dunn . Hospital. i Thomas-Campbell Ceremony Sunday Miss Dorothy Campbell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Campbell of Sanford Route 2 was married Sunday night in the, Popular Springs Methodist Church to Cecil Carr Thomas. Mr. Thomcis’ par ents are Mr. and Mrs. Sidney G. Thomas of Broadway, Route 1. Vows of the double-ring cere mony were spoken before the Kiev. Troy Barrett, pastor of the church, at eight o’clock. A program of wedding music was presented by Mrs. Katherine Make peace, organist, and L. D. Bryan Jr., soloist. Mr. Bryan sang -"Be cause”, “If God Left Only You,” and a benediction, “The Lord’s Prayer.” Pine formed a background for standards of red and white glad ioli, interspersed with branched candelabra holding white cathe dral candles. The altar rail was draped in white and festooned with ivy. The bride was given in marriage by her father, and had Miss Shorty McFarland els maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Miss Ruth Thom as, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Esther Merritt Campbell. Gat tis Thomas wels best man for his brother, and the ushers were Elton Csuneron and Lyn Dawson. The maid of honor wore a dress of white net over taffeta made with a strapless bodice and a bouffant skirt. She wore a stole of net and carried a bouquet of red and white carnations. The bridesmaids wore gowns identical to that of the honor attendant and CEUTied bouquets of white car nations. The bride wore for her wedding a gown of white lace and nylon" marquisette, made with fitted lace bodice, with nylon marquisette, yoke, long sleeves, and a full nylon skirt with inserts of lace extend ing into the circular train. A half bonnet of lace held her finger-tip veil of bridal illusion. She carried a bouquet of white roses centered with a white orchid. Both of the mothers wore cor sages of white carnations. Following the ceremony, the couple received in the vestibule of the church and later left for a wedding trip. The bride wore for traveling a suit of grape shade with a white blouse and other Etccessories of black. She. wore the white or chid taken from her bouquet.
