Coats Social Happenings

The first meeting nf the year
of the chapter of the F.H.A. of
the local school, was held on Wed
nesday, September 17th in the
school auditorium. The program
chairman. Miss Ann Pleasants was
in charge and planned a most in
teresting program. After the busi
ness session they returned to the
Home Economics Department for
refreshments. The officers for this
group were elected last May. Miss
Fay Dene Moore is President and
Miss Sue Johnson is Secretary. The
girls in this organization are show
ing much interest in making it one
oi their best years.

is very scarce.

A religious film entitled "You
! Can't Win." was presented by the
Coats Methodist Church, at the
I Community Building, on last Sun
day evening. The film was based
I on a sermon by Dr. Bob Jones. Sr.,

large number attended and thor
! oughly enjoyed the picture.

and continued until nine o’clock.

Damage Slight In
Fire At Erwin
Damage from a fire at the cot
ton warehouse of the Erwin Mills
at Erwin was confined to one bale
and a loss of about 65 pounds of
cotton, it was reported today.
The alarm sounded at 11:10 p. m.
Tuesday night and the men re
turned to their station at 12:10
The heat from the bale on fire had
opened the sprinkler system, and
only the bale on fire still smoulder
i ed.
Thirteen men answered the a

the selectees does not maintain a

The John M. Morehead Scholar- |
ship award is restricted to male
students of the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill. It is not
available to State College students. ;
Nominations are made from each
school by a school committee con
sisting of three members of the
school faculty of the High School,
the chairman of which committee 1
shall be the Administrative Head :
of the school. The final selections i
will be made early in 1953. and the
announcement will be made prior j
to commencement.

The search that is being made

is not restricted to the award of
the Morehead Scholar, but is made

sunerior student with adequate
scholarships, whether from ’ the

nett County have been requested
to certify to the Harnett County
; Committee as soon as practicable

nominations .from the several
j schools in Harnett County the
County Committee will study the
J records of the nominee and then
arrange a meeting with the nom
j inees to conduct a personal con
ference with all and each of them
en masse, and separately, before
i making the recommendations to
the District Committee,

1 wants to go to college should pass
up the opportunity tins year of
making application to be considered
for the Morehead Scholarship, -
for in so doing he may be counting
