H JHHBr % i A Lot Os folks Have Been Asking Me About . THE ERWIN ELECTION Since a number of my neighbors in Erwin have been asking me about the election to take place at Erwin Mills on October Ist. I thought that perhaps a message to our friends would help explain the situation. Erwin Mills has had a contract with the Textile Workers Union, CIO, since 1941. In the last year or so, however, there has been a serious disagreement between two factions in the Union at the National Level. Union President, Emil Rieve, headed one faction, and George Bald anzi, a Union Vice-president, headed the opposition. 1 A few months ago the fight between Rieve and Baldanzi finally split the Textile Workers? Union wide open—with Baldanzi and his supporters joining the rival Textile Union in the A. F. L. Since that time there has been a tug of war between the two llnions to win the sup port of Erwin employees. Finally, the National Labor Relations Board ordered an election to settle the matter. At this election Erwin employees will have a three-way choice: They may vote for one of the two Unions, or they can decide they don’t want either of them. The election is important to the people of Erwin, and I sincerely hope that every Erwin em ployee will cast a vote on October Ist. Only by a vote by ALL our eligible employees can this matter be settled in the best interest of the grou p as a whole. Meanwhile, Erwin management is cooperating with the National Labor Relations Board by setting up space for voting booths so that our employees may vote in complete privacy, and with the most convenience. Each employee will be notified concerning the time his depart ment will vote. 4 / Sincerely, £.d{. (BoAt E. H. Bost, General Manager Erwin Mills, Erwin, N. C.
