During the afternoon the group played games and Linda Fay open ed her gifts. Later Mrs. Turnage served birth day cake salted nuts, cookies, marshmallows, and soft drinks to: Brenda Tanner. Lovely mixed flowers in autumn , shades were used attractively in the living room. Mrs. Loins Dearborn greeted the j guests at the door, and when the j honoree arrived she was given an approoriate corsage and shown to her place beside a table oiled high with gifts and centered with a j large stork. Mrs. Tve Stewart directed games i and contests and prizes were won j by Mrs. Edgar Black and Mrs. j James “Snag” Jackson of Dunn. The honoree then opened her gifts and passed them around for every one to see. The hostess also re membered Mrs. Earl Holland with a gift. Mrs. Rob Pete-son then invited everyone into the dining room. The table was covered with a j lace cloth and centered with a bowl J of mixed flowers. Mrs. Haywood Barnes poured punch and Mrs. ; Dearborn served cake. Mrs. Carl Langston and Mrs. Joe Wade Lucas honored Mrs. Jimmy Lucas with a miscellaneous bridal shower on Thursday evening, Sept ember 25th, at the Godwin Club building. The room was decorated with lovely flower arrangements. Mrs. Lucas was presented with a beautiful corsage. Games and con tents were enjoyed, after which the honoree opened and displayed the many nice gifts she received. There were forty-two present. The tea table was covered with a lace cloth, centered with a beautiful three tiered cake, which was baked and decorated by Mrs. Joe Wade Lucas. The cake was cut and ser ved to the guest with mints and punch. Mrs. Carl Langston presided over the punch. Mr. Joe C. Jones entered the Bap tist Hospital in Winston-Salem on Saturday. His condition remains about the same. Mr. and Mrs. Julius Jackson of Dunn Route 4. announce the birth of a daughter. Saturday September 27th at the Dunn Hospital. Mrs. Jackson is the former Doris Jean Baker of Godwin. Relatives visiting Mrs. J. T. Miss Jean Peterson, bride-elect, was honored with a shower on Friday evening, September 26th at the Godwin Club building. Mrs. Emmett Edgerton, Jr„ Mrs. Wallace Warren and Miss Doris McPhail were hostesses. Miss Peterson was presented a lovely corsage of pink rose buds. A number of games and contests were enjoyed, after which tile honoree opened and passed the many lovely gifts around so that the guest could see them. Pine apple salad, wafers, nuts and cof fee were served. A special Rally Day program was presented at Black’s Chapel Sun day School last Sunday. Those taking parts on the program were: Mr. Wallace Warren, Mrs. Ethel Starling, Larry Warren, Mrs, G. R. Washburn and Misses Joy Mc- Lellan and Johnie Williford. Misses McLellan and Williford gave a special musical selection. The Adult Class of Black’s Chapel Church enjoyed a fish supper at the Godwin Club Building on Sat urday evening. Games and group singing was enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Treptoe and daughter, Julia of Kinston spent Sunday with the McLellan’ Wades. The Evening Groups conference of Districts 1,3, and 8 of the wo men of the Church of the Fay etteville Presbyterial met on Wed nesday, September 24th at the God win Presbyterian Church. The wo men of the Godwin church were hostess to a banquet dinner, ser ved in the church parlor and Sun day School rooms. There ninety visitors present. Mrs. Lois Lambie of Fayetteville was chairman of the evening circles and presided over the meeting. Mrs. Mack Royals and baby daughter of Olathe, Kansas arrived by plane Monday night to spehd a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Braxton. Mrs. Royals came especially for the celebration of the 25th wedding anniversary of her parents. Mrs, Harold Noel of Durham is spending a few days here with her brother, Mr. Marshall Williams and Mrs. Williams. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Hemingway spent Saturday in Richmond, Miss Marguerite Mclntyre, who had spent the last six iveeks at Tucker Hospital returned home with them, and is much improved. Miss Eloise Connelly attended a teachers meeting in Fayetteville on Tuesday. Mrs. Harold Edgerton and chil dren spent the weekend in Golds boro with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Pate. Mr. Harold Jackson visited in Greensboro last Wednesday. State College researchers are seeking to develop a tomato plant with resistance to bacterial wilt. Saturday night, Ann AldiV'dije riding Patches, was a first place winner in the pleasure ponies class. Jan Aycock, on Virginia, took first place in the three-gaited class. Dun can Wilson Jr., placed second in the pleasure -class. On Sunday, Anne again won a | blue ribbon with Patches, and Jan came in first in the Equitation Contest. There are three sick people on" our list this week that we want to mention they are Mrs. David Her ring who has returned to Rex Hos : pital for further treatment, we hope j Hubba, also won a big blue ribbon. 1 Altogether the show was a great | success for the Dunn equestrians. 1 she will soon be home again. Little Curtis Wood son of Mr. and Mrs. Felton B. Wood is in the High smith Hospital in Fayetteville. He is very ill and the extent of his diagnosis had not been disclosed early Sunday. Mr. William Hugh Strickland has been pretty sick. It was reported to us that he expects to leave this week for San Antonio, Texas wh«c he will enter the hospital for trem ment. We hope that it won’t take so long to get you back into sh»pe Mr. William Hugh, and another thing, don’t you go down there and decide that you like Texas better than you do L’il Ole North Caro lina if you do well you were not a full blooded Tar Heel after all. Where were you at last Wed nesday night? Mr. Smith was very good in his Bible study at pra.'JJ meeting. You certainly missed something by not being present. Won’t you come next Wednesday night and see just, what you have been missing? The time is still 8 o’clock. October 15 and 1C there will be an Association meeting, of the New South River Association. At this time there will be reports on the activities of the various churches and associational business will be taken care of then also. The dit# - gates for these meetings from Spring Branch will be Mr. John son Draughton. Mr. L. N. Godwin, and Mr. Wayne Lee. The W. M. S. will meet at the church Friday night at 8:00 o’clock. The Mary Jacksoh G. A.’s will meet at the church that night also. All members of both organizations are urged to attend these meetings. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Draughton were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Johnson Sunday and were visitor at B. T. U. Sunday night. We were glad to have you folks, come again won’t you?
