The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Perry. Mrs. Fenton V. Watson presided, opening the meeting with ths group i tinging a hymn and Rev. J. D. ERWIN SOCIETY Erwin Sophomores Elect Officers The Sophomores of Erwin High School held a class meeting Wed nesday afternoon to elect officers for the current school year. Those elected were: President, Stanford Godwin; Vice President, Sammy McLamb; Secretary, Bar bara Hudson; Treasurer, Jean Jones; Reporter. Diane Ralph. Mrs. Graham Erwin Circle Hostess Mrs. J. C. Graham was hostess to members of Circle No. One of the Presbyterian Church at her home Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'- clock. The meeting opened with Prayer by Mrs. Fulton Godwin. Mrs. Effie D. Jeffreys gave the devotional entitled “Do You Understand Your New Freedom In Christ?” The program for the evening on “Home Missions” was very interest ingly given by Mrs. Graham. During the business session Mrs. Godwin announced that October is Bible Mastery Month. She also urged everyone to read the Book of Collossians which will be the in tensive Bible Study for this period. Mrs. Godwin told the group that Mr. Phillips would preach a series of sermons, beginning Sunday Teen Tattle Tales By LINDA AYCOCK Oh! Me! Were we let do(vn Fri day night! After our big win over Clinton, the football squad and students were all pepped up and going for another victory. The Rockets proved just a little too (strong for the Greenwaves and beat us 20-7. We now have an open date this Friday and this gives the boys more time to get into good st'flDe for the next Fridav night. We’re planning to show ole San ford what a good ball club we really do have. Gonna romp all over them! Then another open date and we’re taking advantage of this snare time. Coach Waggoner is let ting the boys rest up on Monday and Tuesday of the weeks there are no games and then, the rest of the afternoons are being used to get up new plays. Come on team: let’s really win that Sanford game. The lure of State Fair was too great for most of Dunn High. The “old orison” has been almost emp ty all week. Tuesday and Friday gate 'admission was free for stu dents so the whole football team with the exception of two or three was touring the grounds Tuesday. Friday - - I don’t know. Odell Faircloth, now overseas, really is getting fan mail these days. Jewel McLean writes him regularly and I’ll bet he doesn’t mind that a bit. Odell is helping Uncle Sam and I know he’s doing his part well. Going steadv nowadays is Joan Caudle and Ray Hall of Erwin. Hope they like it. Senior superlatives have now been selected and are as follows: Cutest Faye Monds, Corbett Hartley. Best Looking Shirley McLamb, Skeet Carr. morning on The Holy Spirit and that all church women are asked to sit in a body for these sermons. She also said that this is Home Mission Month, and asked that each circle member read the book “Frontiers of Hope” and pass it on to some one else as quickly as pos sible. HOME FROM HOSPITAL Mr. Orestus Ennis has returned from Rex Hospital in Raleigh and is resting comfortably at his home. VISIT SUNDAY Mr. and Mrs. David Royal of Fayetteville spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Fulton Godwin. ATTENDS FAIR Ted Gray attended the State Fair Wednesday. Then fifteen juniors were Induct ed. They were Barbara Snipes, Kack White, Betsy Ann Tart, An nette Barefoot, Linda Aycock, Daphne Parker, Frank Wilson, Da ley Goff, Dot Laughinghouse, Bil lie Jean Jernigan, Betty Lou Wil son, Mary Lou Westbrook, Kack Butt, Martha Ann Butler, Nancy Jernigan and Patricia Norris. They were welcomed by the members and then Rev. Richard Gammon spoke on the standards of The Beta Club. The standards we have to uphold are leadership, scholarship, and character. He spoke on character. Everyone enjoyed the speech and I’m sure it dented everyone’s mind. The new members were well-chosen and will do their best to fulfill the ideals of The Beta Club.
