PAGE EIGHT 11 Lillington Women's Club Hears Miss Johnson Speak Two speakers addressed the Lill : ington Woman’s Club on Fridaj jr • afternoon at the Community Cen : ter. They were the Rev. T. W. : Williams, Lillington Baptist min f? ister, and Miss Wilma Williams, : county superintendent of public welfare. Since the day of the meeting coincided with the world-wide Day of Prayer and observance of Na tional Brotherhood Week, Mrs. J. Grady Johnson club president, in vited the minister to give the devo tional. He reminded members that in the sight of God all races are equal, and that if we are a Christ ian nation we must recognize that anyone in need is our neighbor. The club’s public welfare com mittee presented the county wel fare officer with Mrs. W. B. Hun ter introducing the speaker. Miss Williams used as the topic of her talk,” functions and Responsibili ties of the Public Welfare Officer.” Variety is the keynote of the duties demanded by law of the welfare officer, she said. For ex ample the welfare officer must ad minister state and federal funds for aid to dependent children, recom mended aid for the permanently and totally disabled, handle county Harringtons Give Dinner Party Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Harrington, Jr. gave a dinner party Saturday night at the home of their mother, Mrs. Inez Harrington in Lillington in which the George Washington motif prevailed. Red, white and blue candles were grouped about the room and Nan dina berries substituted for cher ries. Red paper hatchets were used in the decorations and at the small tables, where a two course dinner was served, the place cards were white baskets holding red cherries. The baskets were tied with sprays of tri-color ribbon, and table .cen terpieces were low containers of rejl, white and blue flowers. Guests were Mrs. Ruth Brown, Mrs. Andrew Jackson, Miss Wilma Williams, Miss Evelyn Sexton, Mrs. Margaret W. Sloan of Broadway and Mrs. Inez Harrington. The host and hostess, who live in Statesville were here for a weekend visit. This was the second of a series of dinner parties they have* given for the various Lillington peop’e who feted them prior to their recent marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wall of Siler City are spending several days here with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Wall. Mr. Salmon spoke on Sunday morning at the Hawfield’s Presbyterian Church on “Tithing.” 1 RECENT VISITOR Frank Hodges of Norfolk, Va. was a recent visitor at the home of his s’stfr. Mrs. J. T. Northam. This marked the first visit of Mr. Hodges to LilHngton in 13. years-JHis wife recently died after a lengthy illness and he was on his way to spend a short time with a daughter in Memphis, Tenn. A native of Dunn, Mr. Hodges plans to retire this summer after working 35 years with the Navv Ship Yards in Ports mouth, Va. He maintains his resi dence In Norfolk. Air Cadet L. Neil Fuquay re cently reported to a new assign ment at Harlenger Air Force Base in Southwest Texas. He will begin pilot training there shortly. Cadet Fuquay is the grandson of Mrs. J. N. Fuquay of Lillington. I Lieut. Joe Weaver, son of Mr. , and Mrs. R. N. Weaver, has gone to Shreveport, La. for a new assign -1 ment with the Air Force. The bride was graduated from Lillington high school and holds a civil service position with the ad jutant general's section at Ft. Bragg. She will continue her work there.
