Tri-Hi-Y Officers
Are Installed

fleers of the Junior Tri-Hi-Y
were Installed in an Impressive cer
emony. The Rev. J. W. Lineberger,
church pastor, had charge of the

Meets At Home Os

presided at the Monday afternoon
meeting of Methodist Church Circle
No. 1. Hostesses for the group were
Mrs. Cora Parker and Mrs. Fred
Baggett.

dominating.
A most appropriate djevotional
thought was offered by Mrs. J. W.
Wilson.
During the business meeting a
number of Items were discussed by
the members, with Mrs. Ward pre
siding.
The hostesses served party sand
wiches, salted nuts, cookies and
punch to the following members
present: Mrs. P. A. Lee, Mra Ward,
Mrs. Wilson. Mra Mamie Ford, Mip.
Cornelia Tart, Mrs. A. P. Adocx,
and Mrs. H. C. Turlington.

Worth Vannoy entertained at a
wiener roast on Tuesday at- the
Dunn Recreation thel:
sons, Charles Allred and Jimmy
Vannoy. Guests for the outdoor
affair were students in Mrs. Hor
ace Ryal’s fifth grade, who are
classmates of the honorees.
The Children enjoyed roasting
wieners which were served with
all tlje trimmings and cold drinks.
Afterwards they enjoyed the fac
ilities for play ha the park.
Around fifty attended the gala
affair. Special guests were Mrs.
Ryals, teacher, Mrs. Katherine Ser
cy, sister-in-law of Mrs. Allred, and
her daughter, Celia Sercy.

Women Have
Birthday Meeting
The annual Birthday Meeting
of the Women of the First Pres
byterian Church was held on Mon
day evening at 8:00 in the church
parlor.
The Birthday objectives this year
are the four Furlough Hemes for,
Returned Missionaries. Mrs. J. W
Jurdie Jr., was in charge of the
program. After singing the hymn
“I Love To Tell The Story,” Mrs.
Myres Tilghman read the scrip
ture and gave the meditation.
Miss Flora McQueen, a former
missionary to Korea, gaye an in-;
terestlng talk on the Furlough
Homes and their needs. Mrs. R. R.
Gammon described one of the
homes "Mission Court,” in Rich
mond where she and Mr. Gammon
lived one summer. A Birthday of
fering was received.
As the benediction, Mrs. Gam
mon sang "Bless This House,” ac
companied by Mrs. E. W. Smith, Jr.
A social hour followed in the
Fellowship Hall. Mrs. C. M. Watson,
assisted by Mrs. Purdle, served lime
Jce punch, cookies and toasted nuts
from a decorated table. .

Bridge Club Tuesday evening when
Sfrs. Bill Bryan was hostess to the
group at eight o’clock.
The dining room table held a
lovely centerpiece of yellow and
bronze mums and on the secretary
in the living room was a bouquet of
yellow daisies and feverfew.
During play, lemonade and cheese
wafers were passed and at the con
clusion of the evening, delicious
refreshments of chicken salad sand
wiches, potato chips, pickles and
cookies were enjoyed with cokes.
Mrs. W. L. Laughinghouse was
-resented a silver fcon-bon dish from
the clyb as a going away gift. Mrs
Laughinghouse will leave this week
to reside in Durham.
Mrs. Nathan won a lov
ely hand-painted tray for tally
ing high score among club members.
Guest high, a handpainted waste
basket was captured by Mrs. Lynch
and low score, a china spoon hold
er, went to Mrs. Locke Muse.
Other memb-rs playing were:

Met Last Night
At Maynard Home
Miss Eiecta Maynard was hostess
; to members and guests of the Bid
and Bye Bridge Club last evening
at her home on East Broad Street.

used in the room where the tables |
were set up for the game.
At the end of the second progres
sion. the hostess served assorted
sandwiches, potato chips, olives,
pickles, brownies and cokes.
Club high, costume Jewelry, went
to Mrs. Paul Strickland, Jr. Mrs.
William Tart received dusting pow
der for top guest score. Miss Sy
bil Barrett was runner-up and was
given a pretty costume flower. One
hand of bingo w£fs enjoved with
Miss Kathleen Barker winning a
cook book.
Mrs. Tart and Mrs. Glenn Rjddle
joined the following club members
for the evening. Miss Kitty Taylor,
Miss Louise McGugan, Mrs. Mickey

i Mrs. Sam Clark Jr., was hostess
on Tuesday night at 8:00 o’clock.
From attractively appointed tab
les, guests and members enjoyed
a dessert course of strawberry short
cake and coffee. Later in the eve
ning, cheese biscuits and cokes
were served. -
t£rs. Clark used mixed pastel
flowers, including sweet peas and
larkspur in artistic bouquets through
out the living and dining rooms.
After scores were tallied, Mrs. Bill
Warren was given a pretty lapel
flower for compiling guest high.
Summer Jewelry was the prize cap
tured by club high winner, Mrs.
Pam Davis. Consolation, novelty
salt and pepper shakers, went to
Mrs. O. R. Pearce Jr. and the trav
eling award war; retained by Mrs.
Ted Burwell.
Guests with Mrs; Pearce and
Mrs. Warren were: Mrs. Ben Harts
fle.’d and Ms. Mack Watson.
