Last Lap Hardestl In Tax Collecting In collecting tax e s, like many a nother task, it is the last lap that is the hardest. That was indicated today by the report made by D. P. Ray. Jr., comi ty tax collector, to the county com missioners at the close of the fiscal year. Rav reported that he has col lected 88.47 percent of the 1952 charge of $721,366.85 needed to op erate the vast county business.. In actual numbers the collector has a I balance uncollected of $83,145.93, or j a 11.53 percent still due. Customarily, budget makers bank - on around ten percent of taxes be ing uncollectable, but that doesn’t lessen the collector's responsibility to get them if he can. Percentagewise, Harnett this year j i is 1.63 percent behind in collections - over the same month a year ago. And while not looking for any spec ial explanation for this lag. Ray I pointed out that dry weather, burn ing crops and temperatures near a I hundred, were not exactly designed rushing to visit the THE DAILY RECORD, DUNN, N. C. tax collector. During the month of June. Rav and his aides collected $4,139.29 in taxes. This was divided as follows: current taxes, $3 063.48 and delin quent taxes, $1,075,81. ' the’- .“Vtmu- s reported from va rious county and state funds a mounted to $83,225.00 bringing the total collections from all sources to j $87,364 29. All have been deposited I with the First Citizens Bank and , Trust Company hi Dunn.
