Wednesday afternoon, September 2,1953 ERWIN SOCIETY Connie Stewart Feted \ At Erwin Party Connie Stewart, daughter of Mr. < and Mrs. Tye Stewart, celebrated her eleventh birthday with a love ly party at the Park Center Satur day evening from 7 until 9:30 o’clock. i The room was very pretty with arrangements of summer flowers and the only illumination was by candlelight. The table was covered with a white cloth- and centered with a basket of pink flowers tied with a ribbon bearing the inscrip tion "Happy Birthday Connie.” White candles in crystal holders weie also used on the table. Mrs. Stewart poured punch from one end of the table and Mrs. Vera McCaskill served individual cake squares inscribed with an eleven from the opposite end. Mrs. Teddy Neidzwich assisted in serving open face sandwiches, potato chips, and mints. Pencils and note paper were given as favors. During the course of the even -ing Connie opened her gifts and the group enjoyed games and dan cing. The guest list included: Jenny Sercey of Dunn, Wanda Matthews, "Mickey” Crawford and Neidz wich, La Verne Johnson, Judy Ste phens. Aiken Honored By Mill Employes Employees of number 5) card room of Erwin Mills and friends paid tribute to Mr. B. F. Aiken up on his retirement as head of that department at a chicken dinner served by Griffins of Goldsboro at the Park Center Saturday afternoon at five o’cloc’t. Mr. Aiken was presented a ipa sonic ring by the group for his twenty six years of service as their overseer. Mr. Aiken expressed his appre ciatoin for the gift and their co operation during his time as over seer of the card room. Mr. R. C. Webb, new overseer, was introduced to” the group. He asked the group to help him keep the reputation of Number 5 card room as being the best in the Erwin chain. Mr. Aiken will continue to make his home in Erwin. Mr. Hughes Retires, Honored In Erwin Employees of No. 5 Spinning, Spooling and Warping Departments of Erwin Mills entertained at a dinner at Maynards Lake Saturday evening from 6 until 7 o’clock hon oring Mr. R. A. Hughes who is retiring September Ist after 27 years of service. A delicious barbtecued chicken and pork dinner was served by Griffin’s of Goldsboro. Music was furnished by The Johnson Brothers and Tennessee Entertainers of W.P.T.F of Raleigh Among their selection were three of Mr. Hughes favorites, "Rocking On The Waves,” “Daniel Prayed," and ! “Listen To The Mockingbird.” Mr. J. Mr. Clyde Johnson and co-operate with him in the fullest. The arrangement committee for the event was Elderidge Norris and Shelton Barbour. At the end of the dinner every one went to the pavilion for a round of square dancing 'led by V. c: Swanson. Around 100 were present.
