Crystal Shower Honors
Miss Carolyn Westbrook
Miss Carolyn Westbrook, who is
to be wed on Monday night, was
• entertained Friday night at eight
o'clock at a crystal shower at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Otlis War- .
ren. Hostesses for the party were :
Mrs.. Bob Fairley, the former Miss

The hostesses presented Miss
Westbrook with a- corsage of pink \
orchids. They also remembered her
with gilts of crystal.
Seasonal decorations • were used 1
throughout the home. The mantel
was unusually attractive in silver. :
Red and white poinsettia were also :
used in the living room. The din
ing room table, covered with a cut
work doth, was centered with a
unique arrangement of pink Poin- '
. settia and silvered greenery, all |
sprinkled with pink snow. On eith
er side of the centerpiece were
green tapers in silver candelabra.
A dessert course consisting of
pink bridal ices in the shape of
roees, nuts, mints and snowballs 1
were served. Quests were seated at :
small tables in the living room, 1
» Each table was centered with pink
rosebuds.
After dessert games of bingo were j
enjoyed. Prizes were awarded to
Mrs. Earl Westbrook, Mrs. Kenneth

On Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Tart cele
brated their anniversary with an
informal Christmas party Friday
night at seven-thirty at their home.
Quests enjoyed • hearing Christ
mas records during the evening.
Delicious refreshments were served
consisting of fruit punch with red
cherries, cake squares decorated
with poinsettia, Spanish nuts and
olives. Mrs. R. L. Godwin Jr., ser
ved the punch.
The dining room table was attrac
tively appointed with candles en
circled with greenery on either side
of the punch bowl. A lovely Christ
mas tree added a festive note in the
home.

The Thursday Afternoon Book
Club held its Christmas party on

man's Club with Mrs. Clarence
Smith as hostess.
Auxiliary tables in the large liv

Mrs. Lloyd Wade was in charge
of the afternoon program and pre
sented Mrs. Thad Pone who de
lightfully sang, “Gesu Bambino,”
accompanied by Mrs. Wade at the
piano. Mrs. Pope led -he group in
a number of Christmas carols.
Guest speaker for the afternoon
was Mrs. Fred Fleming of Coats
who gave a vivid and interesting
account of her trip to the Carib
bean and South America during
the past summer. Mrs. Fleming
was away six weeks and traveled

t.ooo miles. The tour was made on
an Alcoa Line Freighter which
carried a crew of 17 and 10 pas
sengers. She sa led from New York
and the first stop was Puerto Rica,
which the speaker thought one of
the most beautiful cities on the
tour. Other interesting stops were
Venezuela, Trinidad, Suriname and
Jamaica. A number of lovely and
unusual items purchased oh the
tr'p were displayed by Mrs. Flem
ing.

Baptist Church To
Have Yule Music
At 4'30 Sunday afternoon, Dec
ember 20, a Christmas program will
be presented at the First Baptist
Church, the Rev, Earnest F. Rus
sell announced today.
All churdS choirs, from the tiny
Cherubs to the Adult will partici
pate in the afternoon program. The
annual White Christmas will be held
at this time and members are ask
ed to bring their white packages
any time during the day.

COSMOPOLITAN BOOK CLUB HONORS
HUSBANDS AT CHRISTMAS BANQUET
The members of the Cosmopoli
tan Book Club entertained their (
husbands at a delightful Christmas
party Thursday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Willard Mixon in
vited the members and their hus
bands to their home at seven where
delicious canapes, hors d’oeuvres
and egg nog were served. The Mix
on home was lovely with its Christ- ,
mas decorations. ,
At seven-thirty, the group went
over to the Woman’s Club where
dinner was served.
A turkey dinner was served buf
fet style in the dining room. The
table was centered with an attract
ive centerpiece of holly with red
berries in a wrought iron con
tainer, red candles, and red rib
bon. Three red candles and holly
sprigs were used down the table
on either side of the centerpiece.
The members and guests found
their places at a banquet table which
was set up in the hall and living
room. This table was covered with
a green linen cloth with lace inserts
and centered with a unique weath of
shellacked fruit, clusters of nuts,
and greenery centered with a large
white candle.
After dinner Mrs. Richard Gam
mon directed the group in singing
Christmas carols. Mrs. Willard
Mixon and Mrs. Joe Ruark alter
'ated in accompanying at the pi
ano.

To Hold Caroling

! cil will observe their annual Christ-
I mas caroling Sunday afternoon at
6:00. The group will meet at the
First Baptist Church for a devotion
al of Christmas thoughts to be con
ducted by a youth from the First
Presbyterian Church. At 6:30, the
council will break into teams and
go caroling throughout the town.
At 7:30, they will reassemble back
at the church for refreshments.
