Members of the Chit Chat Bridge
Club and an extra table of guests
enjoyed a delightful evening of
cards Friday night when Mrs. Vau
#hn Hutaff was hostess at her
home.
A bouquet of pink carnations was
most attractive in the room where
tables were arranged for refresh
ments. Prior to the card game, a
delicious chicken salad plate with
pecan tarts and coffee was enjoy
ed.

Rouse Jr., Mrs. C. D. Hutaff, Jr.,
Mrs. Hal Jernigan and Mrs. Mar
vin Godwin were special guests.
Members attending were Mrs.
Tommy McPhall, Mrs. William Tart,
Mrs. Carl Fitchett Jr., Mrs. Bobby,
Strickland, Mrs. Harold Jernigan
and Mrs. Russell Fowler.
Mrs. Strickland and Mrs. Rouse
were awarded attractive cobbler’s
aprons for holding the two top
scores among members and guests.
A box of candy went to Mrs. Fow
ler for bingo prise, and Mrs. Hal
Jernigan received guest towels for
consolation.
As the players progressed, the
hostess passed Cokes and candy.

guest last evening when the Tally-
Ho Bridge Club met with Mrs. Sher
rill Johnson at their, home on W.
Carr Street.
Potted plants were used in the
living room and on arriving, the
hostess served delightful spice cake
and coffee. Lat** - in the evening,
plavers were refreshed with Cokes
and salted nuts.
High score for the evening was
compiled bv Mrs. Naths n Cannady
and runner-up was Mrs. Locke
Muse. Both received pretty aprons.

bingo and to the. guest, Mrs. John

LITERARY REVIEW CLUB HAS JANUARY

Mrs. H. C. Turlington was hos

Mrs. Kate Wiggins, class teach
er, was hostess to the T. E. L. class
of the First Baptist Church at its
January meeting Tuesday evening
at eight.
Mrs. V. L. Stephens used the 103rd
Psalm as the basis for an inspiring
devotional thought and In her talk,
she stressed the mercv of God.
Mrs. Locke Campbell, president,
presided during the evening and
encouraging reports were given by
the enlistment chairman and group
cantains. Community missions were
discussed and general business was
completed.
‘Resolutions of respect for the
late Mrs. Herbert Taylor and Mrs.
M. L. Jackson were read by Mrs.
R. A. Duncan and Mrs. G. W. Hen
rv. respectively, and were adopted.
The secretary was Instructed to
s©nd copies to members of the two
families and to the church. Mrs.
Archie Burns closed the meeting
w)th prayer.
A social hour was held and hu
morous games were directed by
Mrs. Duncan. The hostess served
Russian tea, cookies and nuts to the
23 members and six visitors at

Linen Shower
Mrs. Abe Elmore, recent bride,
was complimented Monday even
ing at a surprise linen shower giv
en by two of her co-workers In
Fayetteville. Hostesses for the. bri
dal affair were, Miss Ann Franck,
and Miss Betty McMillan. The par
ty was held at the Franck home
on Raeford Road in Fayetteville.
On arriving, the honoree was
presented an array of beautiful lin
en gifts which she opened, after
which games were enjoyed during
the evening.
Greenery was effectively used in
the living room of the home .and
in the dining room a pink and
white color scheme prevailed. The
table was covered with a handsome
cut work cloth and held a nosegay
of pink carnations with long satin
streamers extending across the
table. Pink candles in silver holders
illuminated the appointments.
Miss McMillan poured tea and
guests served themselves dainty
chicken salad sandwiches, date and
nut roll sandwiches, bridal cakes
decorated in pink, salted nuts and
mints.

The Winsome Class of the First
Baptist Church met on Tuesday
evening at the home of Mrs. H. A.
Westbrook with Mrs. Bill Barfield
and Mrs. J. I. Thomas as associate
hostesses.
Mrs. Frank Porter, president,
opened the meeting with scripture
reading from the 13th Chapter of
John. This was followed by an in
spiring reading and prayer.
During the business meeting, the
president Introduced two new mem
bers, Mrs. M. L. Hight and Mrs.
Nathan Tart. Reports were heard
from the secretary, group captains
and class minister.

tractive In the home and the hos
tesses served delightful canapes, as

Youth Rally To
Be Held In Erwin
On Sunday ev®nine, January 24 a
Youth Pallv will be held at the
Advent Chrlst'an Church. Harnett
and Johnston Cmmty churches will

the Wilmington area will be repre
sented.
This is a special rally for the
new youth eamn. Camp Dixie, on
the coa«t near Wilmington. It will
be an inspirational affair to stimu
late interest In the camD. There
will be sneakers on hand to tell of
first hand exuerlences at the camp
and to encourage the attendance
of the vouth of the church. Sing
ing will be enioved by the group
and the past oresident of the con
ference will be the guest sDeaker.

Seymour told the group that the
financial picture looks bright. Al
ready for 1954, $5,557.98 has been
turned in on an annual budget of
$10,020. Lillington and Erwin have
contributed $350 each. Mrs. Brad
ley said two training courses for
adult leaders had been given in
the past year.
Gold and green Scout colors were
used in the table decorations and
favors'. Mrs. J. Grady Johnson of
Lillington was dinner chairman.
