Fowler - Hobbs Marriage Solemnized In Raleigh The First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh was the setting for the 1 five o’clock wedding of Miss Ruth | Hobbs of Gastonia and Raleigh, to Wesley Caswell Fowler of Dunn on j Saturday, February 20. Dr. James, M. Sprunt, assisted by the Rev erend J. W. Llneberger of Dunn, performed the double-ring ceremony against a background of palms and floor baskets of white gladioli and chrysanthemums. Mrs. Jack D. rhompson, organ ist. and Mm. Lloyd L. Coats Jr., of Dunn, soloist, presented a program of wedding music. Given in marriage by her brother,! Walter N. Hobbs of Charlotte, the | bride wore a floor length gown in | blush misty nylon tulle and ex quisite imported Chantilly lace over taffeta, featuring a moulded bodice 1 below the sheer nylon yoke en-1 hanced witn delicate tracings of 1 seed pearls, caplet sleeves and tulle gauntlets. Lace inserts glori- J fled the voluminous nylon skirt. | Her headdress was a matching lace half hat with pearl trim. She car ried a cascade bouquet of Fleur D'- Amour and white phaleanopsls or chids centered with a white hybrid orthid and tied with nyloq net and white satin streamers. Miss Ruth Hobbs Abernathy of Rojck Hill. South Carolina, niece of ithe bride, was the maid of honor West-Dupree Vows Spoken Mm. Marie Gray Dupree and John H. West Jr., were united in marriage February 12 In a cere mony at the West home in Ports mouth, Virginia. The Rev. Neal W. Ellis ofllclated. The bride is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mm. Eddie M. Gray of Angier, and the bridegroom is the son of Mm. John H. West and the late Mr. West of Portsmouth, Va. The bride’s sister-in-law, Mis. D. M. Gray of Butner served as her matron of honor and Charles Wat son of Portsmouth was best man for Mr. West. For the ceremony the bride wore an ice blue tafTeta dress with white gloves and other navy accessories. She wore a corsage of red roses and carried a white prayer book topped with lily-of-the-valley. An Informal reception at the West home followed the cerepiony. Fol lowing a short wedding trip, Mr. and Mm. West will qnake their home In Port mouth where Mr. West is employed on the city police force. Mrs. Tingen 1$ Hostess To Circle Circle Number 2, of> the Bum merville Presbyterian Church rr\et at the home of Mm. Moselle Tin gen Wednesday night at seven thirty. After calling the meeting to or der, Mrs. Shelton Webb led in pray er. The secretary, Mm. Tingen, read the minutes of the last meeting and called the roll. In the absence of the Bible lead er, Miss Betsy Ross lead the Bible study. The meeting was closed with sentence prayers and during the social hour the hostess served straw berry short cake with coffee. Ifcose present for the meeting were Mm. Shelton Webb, Mm. Her full length | gown of pastel blue, nylon tulle was fashioned with a moulded bodice and the V-shaped neckline was em bellished with satinized blue leaves. The bouffant skirt was accented with a puffed flounce on one side and a repetition of the satin leaves. She wore a matching pearl-trimmed half bonnet and mitts and carried a cascade bouquet of ] Wedgewood iris and Apollo pink carnations tied with pink nylon ribbon^. Wesley Caswell Fowler Jr., at tended his father ass best man. Groomsmen were Nathin M. John son Jr., William J. Thompson, Guy ton Smith and Alsey B.j, Johnson, all of Dunn. T. Avery Fowler of Sal isbury, brother of the groom, L. F. Abernathy of Rock HilL C. C., bro ther-in-law of the bride, John W. Brewer Jr., and Dan F. Holler of Raleigh, served as ushiers. . The bride’s sister-in-law, Mrs. 1 Walter N. Hobbs, wore a beige taff eta dress with harmonizing access ories and a white petalled purple throated orchid. The mother of the bridegroom was attired. in a crepe dress of light blue with light grey accessoricr and her corsage was also a purple throated orchid. After the ceremony, Mr. and Mm. Walter N. Hbbbs entertained at a reception in the church reception rooms. Later In the evening the bridal couple left for a trip to northern points. For travel, the bride wore a suit of mauve tweed with a Dolly Mad ison Dresden pink. Imported Swiss braid level bonnet, and the orchid from her bridal bouquet. Upon their return, Mr. and Mrs. Fowler will make their home in Dunn where Mr. Fowler is connected with the Johnson Cotton Company. The bride is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Douglas Hobhs of Gastonia and has made her home in Raleigh for the past nine years, where she has been connected with the Pritchard Paint and Glass Company. The groom is the son of Mrs. Alma Lassiter Fow ler and the late Arthur Franklin Fowler of Lillington. Future Teachers Organized In Coats High School Ths Students at Coats High School interested in becoming teach ers met Thursday afternoon in the Commercial Department to make plans to organise a local Future Teachers of American or ganization. Opportunities in teaching, train ing required to become a teacher, supply and demands of teachers were discussed by the sponsors, Mrs. Gladys Phillips and Mrs. Mary Jo Mann. Students who are choosing teach ing as their career are; Jean Ry als, Hughle Baker, Della Jackson, Charlotte Ferrell, Ann Pleasants, Becky Pope, Lea Joy Johnson, Sue Johnson, Fay Avery, Busan Tur- I lington, Jo Ann Stephenson, Don r" Blalock, AUie Mae Barnes, Bob by Smith, Connie Mason and Joyce Johnson. Tysinger In a quiet and impressive cere mony, Miss Doris Thornton McPhail and Mr. David Charles Tysinger were united in marriage on Thurs day, February 18, in the home of The Rev. and Mrs. David F. Blue, Jr. of Concord, N. C. Proceeding the ceremony, a mu sical program was rendered which included: “O Promise Me’’ by Dc Koven, “Evening Star” by Wagnei. "Because" by dHardelot, and "The Wedding March” from Lohengrin by Wagner. During the ceremony Schubert’s “Serenade” was played and “The Lord’s Prayer” by Ma lotte was used as a benediction. The vows were heard by The Rev. David F. Blue, Jr. former pas tor of the bride. The bride was attired in a beige traveling suit with white accessor ies and wore a corsage of pink carnations and lillies of the valley. Mrs. Tysinger is the only daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. McPhail of Dunn. She is a graduate of Central High School. Mr. Tysinger is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Tysinger of Lillington, Route 1. He is a gra duate of Buie’s Creek High School and is engaged in farming. Following a wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Tysinger will be at home In Lillington, Route 1. RETURN FROM NEW YORK Mis. C. E. Roberts and Mrs’. Gor don Townsend returned Friday mor ning from New York where they spent the past week. Mrs. Town send was on a buying trip for the Mary Sorrell Shop In Dunn. Alfred Donald Belsma, USAF, were united in marriage Saturday af ternoon at four o’clock in the Oliv ia Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Thomas E. Nelson officiated at the ceremony, and wedding music was presented by Mrs. Alton Harring ton, organist, and Mrs. Laurel Cam eron, soloist. The bride Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Bryan Olive of Olivia and the bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Alice Belsma of Lark spur, Wisconsin and the late Wil liam Belsma. The bridegroom had her two sis ters as attendants. Mrs. Earl Gold ston of Goldston was matron of honor and Miss Daisy Olive of Greensboro was the maid of honor. They wore ballerina-length dresses of pale blue taffeta styled with pleated bodices and full skirts. They wore matching headdresses and carried heart-shaped bouquets of miniature pink and garnet roses tied with pink illusion. For the ceremony, the bride wore a gown of psile candlelight satin and Venice lace made with a high mandarin neckline trimmed with lace. The bell-shaped skirt ended in a long train. Her tiered veil of French Illusion was finger-tip length and was worn with a coronet of orange blossoms. Her bridal bouquet was centered with a white . orchid. Major Bedford D. May was best man for the bridegroom and serv ing as ushers were Capt. Bernell Whitaker and Capt. Charles Hen dricks, all of Southern Pines. The bride’s mother wore a blue gray dress with an orchid corsage j for lier daughter’s wedding. Following the ceremony, the coup- ! le greeted guests In the vestibule i of the church, and then, left for 'a wedding trip to New York City and Canada. On their return, they .will make their home in Southern Pines. Mrs. Belsma attended Woman’s College In Greensboro and Lt. Col. Belsma, who is currently assigned to the Air Ground Operation School I in Southern Pines, attended the University of Wisconsin and grad uated from the University of Ore gon. ANNOUNCE BIRTH Airman 2-c and Mrs. William H. Turner, Jr. announce the birth of a daughter, Debbie Janet at Pitt man’s Hospital in Fayetteville. Mrs. Turner is the former Miss Jackie Strickland of Dunn. Turner is serv ing with the U.S. Air Force in Ko rea. INJURED IN ACCIDENT Mary Faye Williford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Williford was injured in an accident close to-Buie’s Creek yesterday. Miss Williford suf fered a fractured ankle and severe bruises. She will be confined to her home for several days and allowed visitors. George Williford, who was driving the car, escaped injury. ANNOUNCE BIRTH Mr. and Mrs. David Aman an nounce the birth of a son, Joseph David, on February 15th in the, Clinton Hospital. Mrs. Aman is the 1 former Miss Mafalda Dawson of Dunn. STEPHENSON-ROBERTS Miss Norma Jean Roberts is the daughter of Mrs, Ethel D. Roberts of Willow Springs and the late Thomas Henry Roberts. Her en gagement to William Paul Stephen son Jr., son ot Mr. and Mrs. Ste j phenson of Benson, is announced by her mother. The wedding will take place June 12 in Providence Presbyterian Church, Angier. Miss Roberts is a senior at Woman’s College, Greensboro, and Mr. Ste phenson is a graduate of Louis burg College.
