THURSDAY AFTERNOON, MARCH 4, 1954 - •' stfllk ■Bl "'^® HONEYCUTTS CELEBRATE GOLDEN WEDDING AT BENSON SUNDAY To celebrate the fiftieth year of their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Simon P. Honeycutt were honored at a reception given by their children on Sunday afternoon, February 28 from 3 until 6 o’clock. Mr. and Mrs. Ersklne Honeycutt of Fay etteville and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lucas of Erwin invited about five hundred friends to call by the Ma con Hotel In Benson and greet thetr parents on the happy occas ion. Greeting guests on arrival were Mr. and Mrs. Walter R. Strick land with Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Rose making the presentations to the receiving line which was com posed of Mr. and Mrs. Honeycutt, Mr. and Mrs. Ersklne Honeycutt and Mr. and Mrs. Lucas. , Mr. and Mrs. Jack Moore of Ra leigh directed guests from the re ceiving line to the guest registra tion book where Mr. and Mrs. Ro ble Porter of Benson and Fayette villf, Jjresldffl. The hall desk on which the registration book rest ed was attractively decorated with jonquils and yellow mums with a soft glow from the golden colored candles In the background. Os in terest on the desk was the 50-year old miniature of the honor guests, Mr. and Mrs. Honeycutt, on their wedding day. Decorations in the hall were entirely in gold. The ela- < borate gilded chandeliers, originally styled to hold candles, held golden tapers in quantities. Suspended un derneath the chandeliers were mas sive double wedding rings of simu lated gold with showers of gold ribbons extending from nosegays. The center stairway and newels were decorated with a profusion of flold colored chrysanthemums in ! jardinieres standing before a back- : ground of palms. Mrs. Ezra Parker, an attendant at the Honeycutt wedding fifty years ago, was seated at the refreshment table to serve wedding cake. Here the decorations added much to the beauty of the occasion with a hand some embroidered Irish linen cloth covering the table and wide gold satin ribbons crossed in the cen ter of the table and extending to the four corners where they ter minated with nosegays of dwarf chrysanthemums tied with gold me tallic ribbons cascading from the table edge. Centering the table was a massive gold wedding ring from the center of which rose a pedes tal cake stand holding a tiered wedding cake elaborately iced In gold and bearing on its top tier • miniature bride and groom. Assisting ip jervlng cake, fruit punch, party sandwiches, nuts and mlhts were Mrs. Moses A. Peacock, Mrs. J. Danf3rd Britt, Mrs. C. C. Canady Jr., Mrs. Will Woodall, Mrs. Robert Denning, Miss Elsie Turling ton, all of Benson, and Mrs. Stu art Matthews of Angler. Glided magnolia leaves, wedding bells and ionquils were used profusely on the buffet and mantle in the dining room. Directing guests to the gift room were Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Lee and receiving there were Miss Neta Tur lington of Benson, Mrs. A. D. Gregg of Fayetteville, Mrs. Ora Brunk. niece of Mrs. Simon Honeycutt, of Four Oaks. A varied musical program was rendered throughout the calling hours by Miss Wilhelmlna TJtley, Mrs. JesSe T. Morgan, Mrs. Gar ris Yarborough and Zeb V. Step henson Jr., all of Benson and Lib by Blythe, Walter H. Brown, Gll- Legion Auxiliary . Has March Meet The American Legion Auxiliary ! held its March meeting Tuesday ; evening at the home of Mrs. R. A. Duncan Sr., with Mrs. C. L. Guy, Br., serving as associate hostess. The Duncan home was thrown ensuite for the meeting and beau- 1 tifully decorated with a profusion of jonquils, Japanese quince and ca mellias. The meeting was opened with the flag salute, the preamble and the national anthem. Mrs. Duncan led In the meditation. General business was discussed with Mrs. V. L. Stephens presiding. Guest speaker for the evening was Dr. George Cuthrell, who in spired the group with his message on “Back To God Through Com munity Service.” During the social hour, guests were Invited Into the dining room where' Mrs. Guy poured Russian tea and Mrs. Rodney Chestnut as sisted in serving dainty ham sand wiches, canapes, hors d’ oeuvres and cookies. 'The main feaure of the evening wax a wry interesting panel dis cussion on which the following members participated: Dr. R. M. Fink, Mental Hyg.ene Consultant, State Dept, of Public Instruction, Raleigh; Mrs. L. M. Johnson, An gier; Mrs. G. Van Stephenson, An gier; and Mr. Beamon Kelly, Di rector of Instruction, Harnett County Schools, Raleigh. At this meeting there were more parents present than at any pre vious meeting. In the room count which was conducted by Mrs. L. G. Stephen son, Mrs. Sutton’s first grade won the $5.00 attendance prize for the grades, and Mr. McLean’s eleventh grade won $5.00 attendance prize for the high school for having the h ghest percentage of parents: present. The meeting was presided over by Mrs. Haywood Hall, P. T. A. president. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 30. VISITS PARENTS Mrs. Glenn Riddle and daughter Kathy spent the weekend in Dunn with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. j Williams.
