MRS. SUE ALLEN CELEBRATES HER !:
96th BIRTHDAY HERE ON FRIDAY 1
I
i Mrs. Sue Allen, Dunn's oldest
I resident—but one of the youngest c
lat heart and in spirit—celebrated ;
,her 96th birthday here Friday.
And friends and relatives said
I she looked younger and livelier
than she had in several years. Mrs.
Allen also said she felt better. She
was ill on her 95th birthday and
had to spend it In bed.
There was no birthday party or
"elebration, but a steady stream of
friends came in all day to bring
her presents and to extend their
| best wishes.
! As a matter of fact, Mrs. Allen I
1 confessed, she had forgotten It was
| her birthday until the first visitor |
arrived and reminded her.
The birthday ended up as one
of the happiest she has ever spent
and she declared, “Everybody has ;
been just wonderful.” [
A highlight of the day was a
visit from Mrs. Jeff Denny, Dunn’s
"Welcome Wagon Lady,” who came
bearing gifts from Dunn business
firms.
She was as happy as a girt on
her 16th birthday.
Most of those who called on her
were friends she had known since
they were babies. Mrs. Allen says i
! she’s prouder of her family and !
] friends than anything else.
She would lust beam as she I
I greeted each of them.
But she protested a little when I
a newspaperman called for an in
terview and picture
“Aw,” she said, "I don't want
any fuss made over me.”
Mrs. Allen Is a native of Gran- j
ville County, Va., near old Wil
liamsburg. She’s the former Sue
