MdNfcAY AJfKftNOON, JUNE 14, Ml Two Brides-elect Honored Saturday i Complimenting Mias Betsy Camp* bell of Buies Creek, and Miss Evelyn Btraughan, brldes-eleot of the earty' summer, Mrs. H. Paul Strickland,' Miss Margaret Strickland and Miss Mary Louise Btriokland entertained at an informal Come and Sit Tea on Saturday afternoon at four o'- clock, The affair was held at the home Os Mrs. Strickland #h!ch was taste fully deoorated far the occasion with arrangements of white lilies and magnolias. Following tiw arrival of the guests who were greeted by the hos tesses, the honorees were presented with corsages of tuberoses. The quests were then invited into the dining room where Mrs. Leslie H Campbell served punch. The hos tesses, assisted by Miss Fannie Belle Smith, served assorted party sand wiches, cheese biscuits, cookies, nuts and mints. The table was overlaid with. a lace cut-work cloth. The central decoration was a crystal bowl of white carnations, daisies and baby’s breath flanked with crystal candela bra holding white tapers. . Mias Campbell's gifts from the hostesses were a beautifully framed handpainted wedding Invitation, crystal, and an oil painted floral print. Miss Straughan was remem bered with gpfts of silver from each of the hostesses. Included among the guests were Miss Campbell and Miss Straughan, the honor guests, Mrs. Leslie H Campbell. Miss Catherine Campbell, Mrs. A. E. Lynch, Mrs. Carl Lloyd and Mrs. S. For the ceremony, Mrs. McLamb wore a gown of mauve Chantilly lace and nylon net over mauve taffeta. The mother of the bride groom chose a shell pink lace dress trimmed with matching, velvet. Both wore corsage* of orchids to blend with their dresses. Immediately following the cere mony. the parents of the bride en tertained at a reception in their home. C Debbie Twyfdrd Has Party Friday At Tyler Park Debbie Twyford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Twyford, was hon ored at a party Friday afternoon in celebration of her fifth birth day. The party was held in Tyler Park. The chldren were given favors of party hats and baskets filled with, candy and bubble gum. Refreshments were served con sisting of cupcakes, birthday cake, and ice cream. The refreshment table was cen tered with a circus birthday cake. Those assisting Mrs. Twyford with the party were Mis. Etta Jernigan Class Os Stoney Run Has Meeting The Etta Jernigan Bible Class of Stoney Run Church met Tuesday night at the church In the educa tional bulkUng. Mrs. H. A. wfeeks and Mrs. Robert Smith were host esses f<sr the occasion. The meeting was opened with a song by the group, "Brighten The Corner Where You Are.” The scrip ture readipg was given by Shelby Jean Weeks and Mrs. Minnie Bare foot led the prayer. A short business session was pre sided over by the president, Mrs. Lewis Lee Whittenton. Hie speak er for the evening was Mrs. Rich ard Sessoms. She gave a review of the book, "A Man Called Peter.” A social hour followed and the hostesses served a delicious plate of chicken salad sandwiches, pota to chips, cake and iced tea to the members attending. Dinner In Raleigh Given Bridal Pair Miss Evelyn Straughan and Cg njeron Garris, bridal couple-elect, were guests of honor on Saturday evening when Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Stephens entertained at a lovely dinner party at their home on teWJs Drive In Raleigh. The delicious four course dinner consisted of melon ball cocktail, barbecued chicken, asparagus cas serole, green beans, new potatoes, congealed salad, rolls, iced tea and strawberry shortcake, The table was beautifully appoin ted with an all-white bridal ar rangement anc elsewhere in the spacious home, summer flowers were attractively used. ODELL PULLEY HONORED Members of the East Erwin Baptist Church Friday night paid a farewell honor to the Rev. and Mrs. O. W. Pulley. Mr. Pulley has resigned after nine years to become pastor of the Hlddenite Baptist Church. W. C. Pulley Is Leaving East Erwin Church The Rev. O. W. Pulley, pastor of the East Erwin Bap cept the pastorate of the First Baptist Church at Hidden tist Church for the past nine years, has resigned to ac ite. His resignation was annnouncei today by W. C. Stone, chairman of • the board of deacons, who said members of the church were unan imous in expressing regret at his leaving. A successor has not yet been call ed. Mr. Pulley will .begin his new pastorate on the first Sunday in July. - He is a native of Wake County, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Pulley Os YoungsviUe, Route 1. He grad, uated from Campbell College and it:was while at Campbell that he began serving the East Erwin Church. CHfJRCH MAKES; PROGRESS .Following his graduation from. Campbell, be became fulltime-pas tor .of the church, which has shown much growth and progress under his leadership When he took over the pastorate, the Sunday School had only about 50 members. Today it has more than 'IBO. The church membership has grown accordingly. The church has also been enlarg ed. A new Baptismal pool was add qd and 11 new Sunday School rooms were built. Every phase of the church’s program of activity has been expanded. On Friday night, the church held a farewell picnic supper in honor of the Rev. and Mrs. Pulley. At the conclusion, Mr. Stone presented them gifts on behalf of the church church and William Daria pre sented them a gift on behalf of the Young Married Couple*’ Class. On behalf of the church mem bership, Mr. Stone expressed regret at the pastor’s departure but wish, ed him Ooodspeed In his new pas torate. The Rev.
