Book Club Had Dinner Meeting Members of the Helen Bridges Book Club and their husbands mo tored to Johnson’s, just outside of Smithfield on Friday for their an nual dinner to close the year’s work. ENTERTAINS CLASS Mrs. Grady Fann, Jr. entertained members of the Homemaker’s Sun day school Class on Wednesday evening. Lovely arrangements of mixed summer flowers were used in the living room. The devotional was given by Mrs. Donald Pollard and was followed by a business session presided over by Mrs. Fann. During the social hour Mrs. Fann served ice cream, cake, potato chips and pink lemonade to Mrs. Ted Gray, Mrs. Joan Strickland, Miss Madeline Robinette, Mrs. Willie Tjrace Boatwright and daughter, Judy. Mrs. Pollard, Mrs. Joe Den ning, Mrs. Jim Gregory and Mrs. Rosemond Godwin. Mrs. Paul Mur ray visited for the evening. CAMPING TRIP Boy Scout Troop 84, sponsored by the St. Stephens Episcopal Church left on Bunda/ for a weeks camping trip to Camp Durant As sisting the Reverend Robert Insko were Donald Lucas and TTiomas Cameron. Tedder of the Church of God treated the La dies Class to a fish fry at Currin’s Pond on Saturday. Mrs. Eva Brad shaw is the teacher of the class and the fish fry was their reward for raising the quota assigned to them for repairs done to the fur nace. Assisting Mr. Tedder were Wil liam Edwards, Robert West, Harvey Byrd, Ralph Tedder and Bill House, who served a delicious fish supper to the following members of the class: Mrs. Henrietta Norris. CIRCLE MET Mrs. Simpson Quin was hostess on Wednesday morning at 9:00 to the Louise Hill Circle of the First Baptist Church. The meeting was opened with the singing of “Ready.” Mrs. John Graham then presented the devo tional and prayer. A most Inter esting program was given by Mrs. Clara Butler and Mrs. Harvey Bass on the Heck-Janes memorial of fering taken during the month of June. During the business session iwhlch followed, and along with other routine business, it Was de cided that clothing would be sent to Korea. * Lillington News* Campbell Student Is Heard By Lillington Women Edward Thomas, native of Bag dad in Iraq and now a student at Campbell College, was the guest speaker on Tuesda ynight at the meeting of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service of the Lillington Methodist Church. Throughout the Methodist Church the month,of June is des ignated Student Month. In keep ing with this program emphasis, Methodist students were invited to participate on the program, the society’s regular June general meet ing. Miss Jane Cranford, a co-stu dent with Thomas at Campbell College, introduce dthe visiting speaker. The devotional was given by Miss Ann Rerm, and Miss Mary George Kelly was the organist. In an Informal talk, Thomas de scribed bis native land which bor ders the Euphrates River. He de scribed the school system, the re ligious customs and other interest ing aspects of life in a country, “old map list as Mesopotamia." He said he is in this country to study industrial chemistry and plans to enter the U. of N. C. this fan. Mrs; H. G. Aiken, new society president, presided and the pro gram was arranged by Mrs. J. J. Lanier, vice-president and program co-ordinator. A social hoar follow ed the program and the speaker graciously answered a number of questions from the audience. Angier Bride Is Honored In Lillington A recent Angier bride, Mrs. Ger ald Denning, was the guest of hon or at a coco-cola party given on Thursday morning hy Miss Bene Hockaday of LUHngton at her home In the county seat. The honoree is the former Miss Cecelia Young, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Young of Angier. Mrs. Hannah Carpenter opened the meeting with the Bible Medi tation followed with prayin'. The Heck-Jones offering, which is to be taken in June, was thor oughly discussed by Mrs. Curwood Sessoms and Mrs. Ray D. Caldwell and Mrs. Donald Dyer gave other parts related to the program. Plans were made during the rou tine business session to collect and send clothes to the needy in Ko rea. Plans were also made for the mission study to begin the first meeting In July. The meeting was closed with the friendship circle singing “Bless Be The .Tie,” Ice cream, nuts and cake were served to Mrs. Carpenter, Mrs. Yyer, Mrs. G. L. Elderbaum, Mrs. Thurman Garter, Misfe Madeline Robinette, Mrs. Al Hall, Mrs. Vance Melvin, Mrs. Duncan McDonald, Mrs. Donnie Parrish. Mrs. Sessoms, Mrs. Caldwell and Mrs. D. C. Woodall, Woman’s Missionary Union President, who visited with the circle. a festive setting for the informal party. Lillington Girl Off For Europe Miss Frances Louise Atkins, daughter bf Mr. and Mrs. O. 8. Atkins of Lillington, left Sunday far an extended tour of Europe. Miss Atkins went by train to New York City where she will sail on Tuesday aboard “The Indepen dence” for Naples, Italy. She win be In a group of 2* college girls who are on a tour led by Mrs. Nar eott Pemberton of Durham. Among them will be Miss Alice Bost of Hickory, a farmer roommate of Mias Atkins at St Mary’s Junior College. The tour itinerary includes a vi sit to Rome, Venice, Florence and other Italian cities, then to Switz erland where stops will be made in Luzern and Interlaken before going into Germany. From there, the students win proceed to Belgium, Holland and Denmark before the group visits Sweden and Norway. Then they will cross the North Sea to Scotland, and go by train to England. From the British Isles they win tour France Including a stay in Paris. After a tour of Sou thern France, the students will sail from Cannes on the Mediterranean Sea for the homeward trip. Miss Atkins has completed her sophomore year at Woman’s Col lege and plans to return there nett rat Bridge Chib Meets Mr. and Mrs. Be!wyn O’Quinn entertained the Supper Club on Thursday night at their hone In Lillington. A fish supper with slaw, tea, and french fried potatoes was served and bridge games followed.
