Monday afternoon, mi* 12, 1954 Mrs. Surles Is Hostess At Bridge Mrs. James Surles was hostess to members and guests of the Novus .Bridge Club Friday night at her home on N. McKay Ave. Mixed iummer flowers were used to deco grate the home, and on the television •et was an especially attractive ar rangement of pale yellow mums and gladioli in a copper container. Iced drinks and potato chips were enjoyed during the games and at the end of the evening the hostess served orange sherbet, cookies, and nuts. Afer scores had been tabulated. Mrs. Hoover Adams was given a colorful beach towel for the hign •core award. Mrs. John Ciccone Was second high and received a Wrought iron server. A carton of •oft drinks was the traveling award Which went to Mrs. Gerald Mann. Special guests for the evening were Mrs John Ciccone and Mis. kßen Hartsfleld. Members playing Included Mrs. Hoover Adams. Mrs. Gerald Mann, Mrs. J. B. Rouse Jr., Mrs. Alsy Johnson. Mrs. Paul L. Strickland Jr. and the hostess. GREGORY - FONVIELLE Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Fonvielle of Tabor City have announced the en gagement of their daughter. Miss Anita Fonvielle to Kearney Gre - gory. Mr. Gregory is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Gregory of Angler. HENRY HARDY PATRICK Patrick-Godwin Wedding Solemnized Here Sunday In a formal ceremony Sunday af ternoon at four-thirty o’clock at the First Baptist Church in Dunn, Miss Georgia Faye Godwin was u nited in marriage to Mr. Henry Hardy Patrick. Miss Godwin is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey R. Godwin of Dunn and Mr. Patrick Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Patrick, also of Dunn. Officiating at the double-ring ce remony was the Rev. Ernest P. Russell, pastor of the bride. The phurch was decorated with baskets of asters, gladioli and mums. Six 7-branched candelabra were used. The vows were spoken under an arch entwined with fern and pompoms. The kneeling bench was covered in white. Prior to the ceremony, a pro gram of organ music was present ed by Mrs. Reta Whittenton.| Her numbers included “The Sweetest Story Ever Told,” bsy Stultz, Wed ding Prayer”'by Dunlap. "Sous La Feulllee” by Thome, “Lullaby” by Jocelyn, “Heaven’7 Alda” by Jerdt, “Song of Ruth," Gounod, “The Ro-' sary,” Gounod, and “Clair De Lune” by Deßussey. She used the tradi tional wedding marches. Miss Margaret Cathey of Dunn was soloist. She sang “All For You” by Bertrand-Brown and' “Through The Years” by Youmans and as a response to the benediction, “The Lord’s Prayer” by Malotte. Oiven in marriage by her fa ther, the bride was attired In a gown of nylon tulle over candelight satin. The close-fitting bodice but toned down the back with self-co vered buttons and featured a deep, off-shoulder neckline •edged with tiny ruffles and small satin bows. The full length skirt was fashioned with fluted side panels outlined with tiny ruffles and satin bows and extended into a chapel train. Her fingertip veil of illusion fell from a pearl tiara with irredescent sequinns. She carried a satin-cov ered Bible topped with a white or chid and showered with gypsophi lia and ribbons. Miss Peggy Ruth Barfield of Dunn attended Miss Godwin as maid of honor. She wore a floor-length dress of white nylon net with a strap less bodice featuring a shirred mid riff ot aqua taffeta that extended into a panel down the back that fell to the hemline of Jthe skirt. Her shoulders were covered with foulded fishues of nylon net. She wore a bandeau of nylon tulle and matching mitts. She carried a bou quet of rose asters tied with aqua ribbons. Bridesmaids were Miss June Pitt man of Macclesfield, former room mate of the bride at Atlantic Christian College and Miss Betsy Lee of Dunn, also a classmate of the bride at Atlantic Christian Col lege. Their dresses were Identical to that cf the honor attendant ex cept f° r midriffs of rose taffeta. They also wore nylon tulle band eaux and mitts. They carried arm bouquets of pink asters with rose streamers. Miss Faye Monds, Miss Anne By erly, Miss Jewel McLean, Miss Ber ckly Lee, Miss Glenda Bass and Mrs. G. G. One O'clock Luncheon Honors Bride Os Sunday Cake-Cutting Given j For Wedding Party Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Godwin entertained at an Informal cake cutting following the Patrick-God win wedding rehearsal on Satur day evening. The affair was held in the recreation rooms of the First Bapt'st Church which were deco rated with lovely flowers in green and white bridal motif. From a beautifully appointed ta ble, Mrs. Bill Barfield served lime ice punch and Mrs. Ralph Max weH served wedding cake after the couple had cut the traditional first slice. Centering the table was an all-white arrangement flanked by three - branched candelabra hold ing lighted white candles. The three - tiered wedding cake topped with miniature bride and groom was balanced on the opposite end by the punch bowl. Green and white mints and toasted nuts were also served. Guests included the bridal cou ple, wedding party, relatives and friends. Kirby, all of Dunn. The bride’s mother wore a dress of pink lace over rose taffeta with matching lace hat and rose ac cessories. She had a corsage oi white carnations. The groom’s mo ther was attired in a gown of blue nylon and orlon with white acces sories. Her corsage of white car nations was attached to her blue bag. After receiving guests in the ves tibule of the church, the bridal couple left for a wedding trip to unannounced points. Upon their re turn they will be at home on South Clinton Avenue. Mr. Patrick attended Dunn High School and has recently received his honorable discharge from the United States Navy. Mr. Patrick is a graduate of Dunn High School and attended Atlantic Christian Col lege in Wilson. Guests assembled in the living room and were served fruit juice cocktails after which they found their places at the tables designa ted by attractive bridal cards. A coreage of white carnations marked the bride’s place. A delicious lun cheon consisting of breasts of chi cken, butter beans, new potatoes, congealed vegetable salad, stuffed tomatoes, hot biscuits, bridal cakes lime ice cream and iced tea was enjoyed. The bride’s table was covered with a white linen cutwork cloth and held an arrangement of white carnations, mums and baby’s breath A similar bouquet centered the auxiliary table. Orchid gladioli in a crystal vase were outstanding in the living room and pastel summer flowers formed other bouquets. The honoree was presented chi na in her selected pattern by the hostess. McLEMORE DIES Mrs. Rossie Barnes McLemore died Saturday at the home of her daugh ter Mrs. W. A. Rawles Jr. in Rocky Mount. Mrs. McLemore was the mother of Mrs. Linwood Johnson of Benson. The late Mr. and Mrs. Whit ten ten were lifelong residents of liar nett County and made their home on Dunn, Route 3 where the fa mily gathering was held yesterday. All twelve sons and aaughters are living and the entire family was together for the affair. There were Charles B. Whittenton and family of Norfolk, the P.ev. Joe Whitten ton, Mr. Milburn M.
