Wednesday afternoon, jolt 21, 1954 Pay Camps Held By Girl Scouts Hie Central Carolina Oirl Scout Council has just concluded seven weeks of successful Day Camping fcr a total registration of 412 girls. Miss Cathryn Creasman, Camp Director. says that the attendance |ras the best In the history of this ■Council. Comments from the Scouts ilso indicate that the camp sessions were both fun and helpful training ip campcraft skills. ’ The camp program featured out door cooking, campcraft. skills, craft, swimming, music, games, and folk dancing. Camp sessions were held In Rob bins for Robbins and Carthage: Winebluff for Southern Pines, West End, and Pinebluff; Erwin for Dunn and Erwin; Sanford; Pitts boro and Siler City; and concluded at Pinebluff for Pinehurst. A total of. 67 adults composed the staff for the various camp sessions. ’. Miss Mary George Kelly of Lil |Ungton. a former Scout in this Council and currently a senior at -Puke University, served as assistant site director and directed the Pitts boro 811er City Camp. . The Red Cross furnished water front directors for camp sessions that Included swimming. IN JACKSONVILLE Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Bailey and Mrs. Troy Jackson spent Monday and Tuesday in Jacksonville with Mrs. Jackson’s daughter, Mrs Lewis E. Godwin. IN FLORIDA Mrs. George Pope McKay and daughters and Miss Jessamine Starling have gone to Florida for visit with relatives. The meeting was opened with the hymn, “Take My Life” and the devotional by Mrs. Wayne Jus tesen. She used as scripture refer ence, the 43rd Chapter of Isaiah. Circle No. 1, with Mrs. Herman Neighbors In charge, presented the program. Mrs. Bill Carroll spoke on the new topic, “Unto The Least Os These,” in a most effective manner. She closed her remarks by telling something of the church and the minority group. This was a testimony to the effectiveness of work among the displaced persons. Routine business followed at which time reports were heard from the various circles and chairman of the attendance contest. Mrs. Cohen Tart sang. “Were You There?” with responses by Mrs. James Britt. The meeting was closed with the National Benediction. Ladies' Night Held By Jaycees The Dunn Jaycees held Ladles’ Night on Monday and special guests In addition to their wives were Murphy Upchurch, state winner In the Javcee sponsored Road-e-o, and Miss Becky Lee, firs, runner-up In the Miss North Carolina pageant. The meeting was held at 7:30 In the General Lee Room at Johnson’s Restaurant. Guests enjoyed a "Chicken In the Roush” dinner.' Both Miss Lee and Mr. Upchurch gave Interesting reports on their respective contests and expressed their appreciation to the Jaycees for their fine promoting. Upchurch VIU leave this week for Washing ton to compete In the National Road-e-o. Hubert Peay, president, presided over the business and Corky Cre flnl installed the following new members; Durwood Godwin, Tom- U»v Godwin and Robert Page. The group then adjourned to Ty >er Park for dancing and a water melon slicing. Carolyn Turner And Douglas Johnson Wed In Dillon . AdnH MRS. D. & JOHNSON The marriage of Miss Carolyn Turner and Douglas Brown John son took place on Sunday, July 11th, |n Dilltmj South CarcUp* with Judge Travis Ford hearing the vows. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Turner of Coats, the bride is a 1954 graduate of Coats High School. Mr. Johnson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Johnson of Buies Creek. The bride was attired in a white embroidered dress of sheer nylon with which she used white acces sories. Mr. Johnson attended Buies Creek High School and has re cently been inducted into the Armed Forces. After a short wed ding trip, the bride wIU be at hum* with her parents on Route 1. Cdats.
