At the close of her two weeks vacation Mrs. Fairchild has returned to Or lando where she is employed by “The Star." SUNDAY VISITORS Among the guests of Mrs. W. P. Byrd on Sunday were Miss Mae Grimmer, of Raleigh alumnae sec retary of Meredith College, and her guest. Miss Marian Warner of Philadelphia, Pa. Fuquay while in Lillington. • To BEACH Dr. and Mrs. S. R. McKay and their daughter, Mrs. A. M. Buiiik, are spending a two weeks vacation at Carolina Beach. From WASHINGTON Mrs. Mary Bethea Carlson will arrive this week from Washington D. C. to spend sometime with her sisters, Mrs. H. D. Secrest and Mrs. Fred Inneson. Mrs. Carlson Is com ing especially to be here for the wedding of her niece. Miss Dorothy Secrest and Dallas Pope which will take place Sunday, August 8. VISITS FRIENDS Miss Belle Hockaday was a re cent visitor In Lumbcrton where she spent the day with Miss Eliza beth Shaw. Miss Hockaday also recently visited Mrs. W. Clifton Grady in Raleigh where she was joined by Mrs. Grady’s sister, Mrs. Bcacham Wray of Chickamauga, Ga. Mrs. Wray and Miss Hockaday were once roommates at Woman’s College in Greensboro. Wat terscn and Mrs. Watterson and their three children returned last week following'three years of Army duty in Germany and are vUiting Mrs. Watterson’s mother, Mrs. B. B. Wilson on Broadway, Route 1. Mrs. Watterson is the former Miss Mary Frances Wilson. This mark ed the second European tour of duty for Chaplain Watterson whose next assignment will be Camp Car son, Colorado. Among the relati ves at the Wilson home n the week end t greet the Wattersons were Waylon Wilson who was recently transferred as a districts superin tendent of a South Carolina power company from Rldgeland to Holly Hill, S. C., and Warren Wilson and family of Greensboro. They are brothers of Mrs. Watterson. GO ON CRUISE Two Lining top Explorer Scouts will leave on Friday for a week's cruise aboard a U. S. Navy trans port ship. Allen Walker, son of Mrs. J. A. Walker, and Woody Matthews, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. T. Mat thews, will be among 100 Explorer Scouts of the age of 15 and up ward who will go on the cruise. The Explorers will go by char tered bus from Raleigh to Norfolk, where they will be taken on a guided tour of the Norfolk Navy yards on Friday and go aboard ship on Saturday. Around 2,000 men will be aboard the ship, TheExplorevs, as guests of the U. S. Navy will have access to all parts of the big transport and will share the sailors food and quarters. To CAMP CHAFFEE Kenneth Watkins returned Tues day to Camp Chaffee, Ark. after spending a brief leave here with his mother, Mrs. Sam Watkins and his sister, Mrs. Frances W. Wood.
