The First Presbyterian Church
In Chadbourn was the scene, Octo
ber 23rd, at 4:30 p. m. for the
double ring ceremony uniting Thel
ma W. Bonkemeyer and Ray Mun
dy McArtan! The Rev. Leslie Tuck
er, pastor of trie? Fir»t Presbyterian
Church of Dunn, officiated.
Mrs. SJtalbV BOllafd, organist,
presented a program of nuptial
music. Mr. Chris Spivey, soloist,
sang "Oh Perfect Love” and "the
Lord’s Prayer” as a benediction.
The vows were spoken before a
background of floor baskets hold
ing white mums, and white tapers
in seven branched candelabra il*
luminated the church.
Ushers were William A. and
Robert C. McArtan, brothers of
the groom.
The bride and groom entered
the church together and were un
attended. She was attired. in an
original waltz-length two-piece
dress of ice blue wool and satin

Hostess To Bridge
Club Thursday
All club members attended the
meeting of the Novus bridge club
last night at eight 'o'clock. Mrs.
Gerald Mann was hostess to the
group at her "home on N. Orange
Ave.
A beautiful arrangement of or
chid chrysanthemums decorated
the dinning room table, while the
piano was graced with red roses
in milk glass.
During the games the hostess
served Cokes and garlic wafers,
and passed candy to the players.
At the close of the evening, they
enjoyed a dessert course of home
made cocoanut cake, cashew nuts
and coffee.
Mrs. Alsey Johnson won earrings
for tallying high, and Mrs. Paul
L. Strickland. Jr., who Was second
high, received a decorative waste
basket. Mrs. Strickland was the
winner in one game of bingo, re
ceiving a pyrex bowl, and the
other bingo award, salt and pepper
shakers, went to Mis. J. W. Thorn
ton, Jr.

For her daughter’s wedding the
bride’s mother wore a jet brown
suit with matching hat and pur
ple throated orchid.
The groom's mother wore a royal
blue costume suit with black acces
sories and white orchid.
After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs.
E. L. Derrick received friends and
out-of-town guests at a reception
at their home. For traveling the
bride changed to a two-piece navy
blue suit with white accessories
and the orchid lifted from her
prayer book.
After a northern wedding trip,
the couple will soon make their
home in Dunn. On Saturday even
ing there was a dinner party at
the Anchorage Club at Lake Wac
ca'maw.
Mrs. McArtan is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Hatha
way of Goldsboro and is a grad
uate of the Chadbourn schools
Mr. McArtan is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. John William McArtan
of Dunn and graduated from Dunn
high school..He is employed as an
Eastern North Carolina salesman
for the Dixie Cup Company.

Mrs. Willie Moss was hostess to
the Delta Dekka Bridge Club at
her home last night at eight o
lock.
Flowers decorating the living
room were pom pons and carna
tions.
Mrs Bill . Armstrong captured
high for the club and also travel
ing. She received a baking dish
and a lapel pen as the respective
prizes. Mrs. Charles Aycock, Jr,
was presented lingerie for second
high scorer. Guest high, a pen and
cuff link set, went to Mrs. Joe
Leslie.
The hostess served nuts and
Cokes during play. Later she ser
ved a salad plate and coffee.
Members present were Mrs. Bill
Armstrong, Mrs. Charles Aycock
Jr., Mrs. Emmett Aldredge, Mrs.
Bill Blackley, and Mrs. George
Britton.

Nelson in Olivia, Miss Gwen Page

burk of Jonesboro Heights were un
ited in marriage. Rev. Nelson of
ficiated at the double ring cere
mony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Herbert Page of-Cameron.
Mrs. Jack Phillips, organist, pre
sented the wedding music .
The couple entered together. The
bride wore a two-piece navy suit
dress with navy accessories and cat -
ried a white satin covered prayer
book topped with a white orchid.
Mrs. David Hobson, the bride
groomfe sister, attended as the
bride’s matron of honor and only
attendant. David Hobson was best
man.
Members of the families and close
friends of the couple attended the
ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Hobson en
tertained at a cake cutting for the
bridal couple and wedding party
immediately following the cere
mony.

tess served Cokes, potato chips, and
candy.
Miss Libby Raye Cromartie was
the recipient of a basket of fruit
for winning club high tally. Club
low, a double deck of cards, went
to Miss Melrose Tart. Bingo prize
was awarded to Mrs. Mayo Wag
goner who received a box of sta
tionery.

ried out the Halloween motif.

The T. E. L. Class of the First
Baptist Church met last night at
7:30 with Mrs. V. J. Rice
Arrangements of dahlias and
marigolds were used effecttely
throughout the home.
Mrs. George Upchurch presented
a mast inspiring devotional which
was followed with prayer by Mrs.
V L. Stephens.
Mrs. V. J. Rice, class president,
presided during the lengthy busi
ness session.
Mrs Archie Burns was in charge
of the program for the evening
and read a series of poems by Had
ley
Refreshments were served by the
hostess consisting of pound cake
topped with whip cream and coffee.

hostess with a nest of ash trays.

freshments of devil’s food cake with
lime sherbet, nuts, and coffee were
served.
