FRIDAY AFTERNOON, OCTOBER 28, 1955 Special Service Was Observed At Methodist Church Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. the mid week service of the Divine Street Methodist Church was combined with Quiet Day of the Week of Prayer for the Womens Society of Christian Service and the Wesley an Bervice Guild in an impressive Mrvic*. The devotional hour was opened 1 with an organ prelude by Mrs Reta Whittenton followed by ~i report from Mrs. H. C. Turlington on the special missions supported by offerings during this week of prayer. The theme of the service was “THE A B C’s of Meditation". The first part - “Awareness Os God" was given by Mrs. J. W. Lineberger and during this period the altar was eentsred with an arrangement of fall flowers showing one of the many ways God makes known his presence in our world. Mrs..Line berger stressed the fact that our busy lives leave so little time to marvel at Ood's wonders, such as the lovely sunsets and even the per fection of one flower in Its ow.i life cycle. The second portion - “Bread Os Life" was given by Mrs. Fred Byer ly in which she reminded us that God gave us this life: invites us to join him; is disappointed when we will not accept; worries about those too ill- to accept and rejoice when they recover and return to Him. During this portion the altar was centered with a Bible before a loaf of bread. The final part of the devotional - "Consecration And Commitment” - was given by Rev. J. W. Line berger. as he asked “Are we truly consecrated to the Cross?’*, “Do we really know- what it means? “Have we completely committed our lives to God?” As he talked, the Cross was placed on the altar, the vertiaal portion symbolizing God’s love meeting ours and the horizontal portion the outstretched arms to all mankind At the close of the service the congregation wbs invited to recom mit their lives to God.
