MONDAY AFTERNOON, OCTOBER 31, 1955 ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED Miss Florence Anne Hobbs of Dunn, whose engagement to Frank Barbour of Four Oaks is announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs Thad Hobbs. Mr. Bar bour is the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Barbour of Four Oaks. A November wedding is planned. WOMACK-WAGONER Mr. and Mrs. Garland Woodrow Wagoner of Elon College have an nounced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Lora Louise Wag oner to Cecil Graham Womack, son of Mr. and Mrs. Engene Clif ford Womack of Olivia. The wed ding is planned for November 24 at 7 o’clock in Friedens Lutheran Church near Gibsonville. CARTER-KEY The engagement of Miss Mary Elizabeth Key to the Rev. Herbert Carter of Wallace has been an nounced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Key of Portsmouth, Virginia. Porker-Wilson Wedding Plans Announced Miss Betty Lou Wilson of Dunn, announced today the plans for her marriage to Bladen L. Parker, also of Dunn. The wedding will take place Saturday afternoon. Novem ber 5 at 5:00 o’clock in the Stoney Run Church near Dunn. The Rev. Charlie Johnson, former pastor of the bride, will officiate at the double ring ceremony. Miss Wilson is the dauhgter of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Wilson of Dunn, and Mr. Parker's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Parker, also of Dunn. Mrs. Theron Beasley will be her sister’s matron of honor and only attendant. Andy Waddell of Hamlet will serve as best man. Ushers will be Teddy Eason, cousin of the bride groom, and Tommy Wilson, of Richmond, brother of the bride. Miss Alice Marie Crews of Elkin nice Harris of Mount Airy and Miss and Rudolph Omega Rogers of Mount Airy were united in mar riage in a candelight ceremony solemnized at 5 o’clock today at the First Methodist Church in El kin. The Rev. J. C. Reichard, pastor of the Firs tMethodist Church, performed the double ring cere mony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Albert Crews of Route 3, Winston-Salem. Mr. Rogers is the son of Mrs. Her man Clarence Rogers of Mount Airy and the late Mr. Rogers. A program of wedding music was presente dby Mrs. Stewart Ed wards. organist, aunt of the bride, and John Sagar, soloist. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of ivory silk taffeta designed with a por trait neckline misted in Alencon lace, molded basque and volumin ous skirt which extended into a court train. Her veil of french illusion was caught to a taffeta bandeau covered with shirred tul le. She carried a white Bible top ped with a white purple throated orchi dshowered with satin stream ers. Colorful fall flowers and greenery decorated throughout the home. The honoree was presented a corsage of white mums upon her arrival. She received a silver serv ing tray and a teaspoon in her chosen silver from the hostesses. The guests showered her with an array of miscellaneous gifts. They wore matching velvet bandeaux with circular veils. They carried nosegays of pink chrysanthemums and maline puffs. Thomas Calvin Morgan of Mur freesboro, Tenn., was best man. The usher was Percy M. Ausley of Fuquay Springs. Following the ceremony, members of the Surry Count Health De partment of which the bride was a member, entertained at a re ception at the Gilvin Roth YMCA. The bride's table was centered with a narrangement of white chrysanthemums, lighted tapers and English ivy. Assisting in serv ing were /Mrs. R. B. C. Franklin, Miss Ann Franklin,' Mrs. John Cruse and Miss Elizabeth Cruse. After the reception the cotiple left on a wedding trip to Virginia and Washington, D. C. For travel ing the bride wore a tweed suit with which she used brown ac cessories. Her corsage was the or chi dlifted from her prayer book. Mrs. Rogers is a graduate of City Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Winston-Salem, with the class of 1951. For the two past years she has been associated with! the Surry County Health Depart-, ment serving as public health nurse in Elkin. Mr. Rogers, a graduate of Wake Forest College, is deputy collector, for the North Carolina Department of Revenue. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers will make their home on Route 6, Mount- Airy. Covenant Class Enfoyed Supper Friday Night The Covenant Class of the First Presbyterian Church met Friday evening for their regular monthly meeting at the church. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Welbome and Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Stephenson bad charge of directing games and en tertaining the group with a cover dish supper during the social hour. Betty Lou Wilson Honored At Linen Shower Miss Betty Lou Wilson, Novem ber bride-elect, was honored at a linen shower Saturday afternoon at 400 o’clock by Mrs. George Jemi gan. Upon her arrival, Miss Wilson was presented a lovely white chry santhemum corsage. During the afternoon, the guests enjoyed bridal games with Mrs. Erbie Hinson and Miss Janie Park er as winners. Mixed fall flowers were attract ively used throughout the Jemi gan home. The green and white color scheme was carried out in the den and dinning room. The hostess invited the guests to the dining room where Miss Janie Parker, sister of the groom-to-be. served bridal cake squares and Mrs. Alton Wilson, mother of the bride elect, poured lime punch. Dainty ham sandwiches, nuts, and mint's were also served. The honoree was then invited to open an array of lovely linen gifts.. Blalock, 98, of Ra leigh. Ht. 8, died at Rex Hospital In Raleigh at noon Friday after a brief Illness. He was the brother of the Rev. J. A. Blalock of Dunn. John T. Myers Dies In Sampson John Thomas Myers. 61. of New ton Grove, Route 2, died Saturday momisg about 10 o'clock in Sam pson Memorial Hospital at Clinton He had been in declining health for several months. Funeral services were held Mon day afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at Randall Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Sampson County. The Rev. Lester Byrd and the Rev. C. W. Kirby officiated. Burial was in Hillcrest Cremetery at Newton Orove. v Mr. Myers was a native and lifelong resident of Sampson Coun ty, son of the late Lewis T. and Sarah Hudson Myers. He was a farmer. Surviving are his wife. Mrs. Liz zie Fritter Jackson, eight sons. J. Robert, Leroy. Preston Allen, Sherrill Allen, George, and James Myers, all of Newton Grove. Olive, and Miss Sara Fran ces Myers of Newton Grove; two brothers, Ether Myers of Clinton and Edgar Myers of Dunn; also 16 grandchildren. Former Dunn Minister Dies The Rev. O. W. Dowd, retired Me hodist minister of Raleigh, died at Rex Hospital Sunday afternoon at 4:15 after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a. m. at Hayes Barton Methodist Church. Offi ciating will be the Rev. R. G. Daw son, district superintendent; the Rev. W. A. Cade retired, of Ra leigh; and the Rev. Stanley Potter of Sanford. Burial will' be In Long Memorial Cemetery in Roxboro at 2 p. m. Tuesday. Son of the late John A. and Oteiia Dowd of Chatham County, the Rev. Mr. Dowd received his education at Trinity College and Vanderbilt University. The Rev. Mr. Dowd had served the Methodist Conference for 50 years, starting in the ministry in Helena, Mont., in 1905. He retired and came to Raieigh to live in 1945. He served his last charge at Dunn and was well-known here. The Rev. Mr. Dowd also had served at Loulsburg, Goldsboro, Roxboro, Oxford, Elizabeth City and Hamlet. Father Os Hubert Peay Died Saturday James Fleming Peay. 74. of Rocky Point died Saturday night in James Walker Memorial Ho.-pital in Wiimington after a lengthy ill ness. Funeral services were conducted from the Rileys Creek Baptist Church Monday at 2:30 by the Rev. Elliott B. Stewart, pastor, as sisted by the Rev. E. W. Pate and the Rev. A. B Bumgarner. Inter ment followed in the family ceme tery at Rileys Creek. He is survived bv five sons, among them Hubert Peay of Dunn, four daughters, one brother, two sisters. 18 grandchildren and one great grandchild. MRS.
