Mr. Edwards reported today that only 20 customers in the entire five-county area are now r waiting for service. They will be connected at an early date. There are now 1900 miles of power lines owned and operated by South River in ifs area. Mr. Edwards reported that Hur ricane Hazel last year inflict ed over $20,000 damages to the cooper ative's electric system. But this did not prevent a nice profit for the year. CRISP SPEAKS William T. Crisp, executive man ager and general counsel of Tar Heel Electric Membership Associ ation and president of the State Association of REA units was the principal guest speaker at the meeting. He told the crowd that North Carolina's rural electric cooper atives hope to make further pro gress in their long fight to get electric power from Kerr Dam. Mr. Crisp also discussed the vari ous operations of the REA units. He had high praises for the splen did record made by South River.
