South River
(Continued from Page One)
ment of Mr. Edwards and his
board.
Mr. Edwards reported today that
only 20 customers in the entire
five-county area are now r waiting
for service. They will be connected
at an early date. There are now 1900
miles of power lines owned and
operated by South River in ifs
area.
Mr. Edwards reported that Hur
ricane Hazel last year inflict ed
over $20,000 damages to the cooper
ative's electric system. But this did
not prevent a nice profit for the
year.
CRISP SPEAKS
William T. Crisp, executive man
ager and general counsel of Tar
Heel Electric Membership Associ
ation and president of the State
Association of REA units was the
principal guest speaker at the
meeting.
He told the crowd that North
Carolina's rural electric cooper
atives hope to make further pro
gress in their long fight to get
electric power from Kerr Dam.
Mr. Crisp also discussed the vari
ous operations of the REA units.
He had high praises for the splen
did record made by South River.
OFFICERS REELECTED
During the business session, the
members reelected President Joe C.
Howard of Roseboro. Route 2, and
also re-elected Mr. Edwards and all
the other officers and board mem
bers.
