* Erwin Society * Baptist Class Had Chicken Supper Friday The fellowship class of the Er win Baptist church and their wifes 1 enjoyed a fried chicken supper at the recreation center on Friday evening at 7 o’clock. Loyd Byrd and Clifton Royals prepared the delicions meal that consisted of fried chicken, french fries, tossed ! salad, and soft drinks. Assorted | pies were served for dessert. Mr. \ Bud Strickland is teacher of the i class. Those present were, Mr. I and Mrs. H. C. White Jr. Mr. and | Mrs. Loyd Byrd. jVIr. and Mrs. ! Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Royal, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cameron and a visi tor, Mrs. Lee Cameron of Raeford. 1 Miss Bessie Holt Feted With Bridge Party Thurs. Even. Miss Bessie Holt, bride-elect of August 24 was entertained at a lovely bridge-dessert party on Thursday evening by Mrs. W. P. Holt Sr. and Miss Lula Fay Fitz gerald at the home of Mrs. Holt. Guests were served, bridal ices, cake squares, and nuts upon ar rival punch was served through out the evening. Miss Holt receiv ed a corsage of tube roses, and gifts of lingerie from the hostesses. Three tables were set up for the party and mixed flowers of Carna tions, Chrysanthemums and tube roses were used for floral appoint ments throughout the spacious liv ing room. Mrs. D. C. Woodall received high score prize and Magaret Cathy received low score prize. Those enjoying the party were Miss Bessie Holt, Mrs. Flora Holts, Miss Nancy Holts, Miss Magaret Cathy, Mrs. Fred Thomas, Mrs. D. C. Woodall, Mrs. B. B. Hudspn. Mrs. Sarah Proffit, Mrs. Wayne McLamb, Mrs. Paul Parker, Mrs. A. R. Marley, Mrs. E. M. Bost and Miss Lena McNeil came in for refreshments. Two Ladies Hostesses To Fidelity Class The Fidelety class of the Bap tist church met on Friday evening at the church with Mrs. E. L. McLemore and Mrs. L. N. Hasty as hostesses. Mrs. Stella Woodworth is teacher of the class. Mrs. Wil liam Rochester, president,, opened the meeting and Mrs. Stella Wood worth gave the devotional. Mrs. Ulus Stephenson gave the monthly report and announced that the next meeting will be held with Mrs. Ed Wade and at this meeting the heart sisters will reveal themselves to each other. All members are ask to be present. Following the bussiness the hostesses served home made pound cake, potato chips, peanuts and coffe to the fol lowing. Mrs . Honor District Matron and Patron A lovely dinner was given in the General Lee room at John son’s on Friday evening at 6 o'clock in honor of the District Worthy Grand Matron, Mrs. Lila Duke and District Worthy Grand Patron, G. D. Moser by the hostess chapters of the O.E.S. of Erwin, Dunn, Lil lington, Fayettevile, St. Paul and Mills prior to the meeting at 8 o'clock. About thirty-five people attended. At 8 o'clock in the chapter room in Erwin, after a ritulastic open ing by Mrs. Hazel Godwin, Worthy Matron of the Erwin chapter, she presented the distinguished guests, Mrs. Lila Duke and G. D. Moses who made their official visit to these chapters. Mr. Hugh Prince, past grand patron, Glenna Grimes associate grand matron, Wilber Perkins, associate grand patron, Mrs. Deas Gurganus, grand electa and Ruth Norwood grand repre sentatine to Michigan, Florence Ford grand representative to the district of Colombia, Mrs. Mar tha Davis, district deputy grand patron and a number of grand chapter committee numbers. Wor thy Matron and Worthy Patrton were also welcomed. The District Worthy Grand mat ron, Mrs. Lila Duke gave some instructions for chapter work and inspirational talk on “Faith”, The District Worthy grand patron, G. D. Moser, also gave some instruc tion and made a talk on “Is Any one happier”. Gifts and honorary memberships were presented to the Worthy grand matron and to the Worthy Grand Patron from the hostess chapters. The Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy grand patron were invited into the prayer garden by St. Pauls Chapter and a most interesting program was presented in their honor. After the meeting closed guest were invited into the din ning room. From a lovely table covered with a blue cloth with an arangement at pink carnation and pink candles the hostesses served sandwiches, cookies and punch. Brent Stroud Honored On 4th Birthday Saturday Mrs. Arden Stroud honored her son, Brent, on hJs fourth birthday with a party on Saturday after noon at 4 o’clock at their home. Games were played on the lawn, then the children gathered into the porch and Brent opened and admired his gifts. A table was set up on the back lawn covered with a birthday cloth and held a beautiful pink and white birthday cake with pink candles. After Brent blew out the candles and the children sang Happy birthday, Mrs. Stroud as sisted by Mrs. Henry White Jr. served birthday cake, ice cream, candy, bubble gum, and punch to the children. Balloons were given as favors. Those presdent were, Brent Stroud, Anita Bass, Pat Cameron, Tommy and Phillip Woodruff, Tony Weeks, Donnie Wayne and David Royals, Dwight Ashley, Cathy and Carolyn Byrd, Susan White, Phil White, Karen and Jim Hobbs. ATTENDED WEDDING Among those form Erwin to attend the Matthew — Hienzman wedding at 5 o'clock in the Baptist church at Bunnlevel on Saturday were Mrs. J. P. Matthews, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Matthews, Mrs. D. F. Stephens, Mrs. Leon Wade, Mr. and Mrs. Millard Snipes, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Snipes, and Mr. and Mrs. Billie Matthews. VACTIONED LAST WEEK I Mr. and Mrs. Vasco Pope vaca tioned last week at Elizabeth City, | Cape Hatteras and Manteo and saw the pageant, “Lost Colony”. VISITED HERE Mrs. J. E. Davis of Walterboro, S. C., visited her daughter, Mrs. Willie Matthews, the weekend. FROM DURHAM Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Stephens and son, Gray, of Durham visited relative this weekend. IN MOUNTAIN Mr. and Mrs. John Moore and ' sons, Eddie and Gray, vacationed .last week in the mountains of N.C., I and visited Blowing Rock, Cherokee and other place of interest. M/ss Holt And Mr. Parham Were Entertained Wed. Miss Bessie Holt and Lewis Par ham who are to be married this month were entertained on Wed nesday evening at a lawn supper by Dr. and Mrs. D. C. Woodall at their home. The table set up on the back lawn was covered with a red checked table cloth and centered with a large wedding bell. The plaid Napkins had small novetties of rolling pins attached to them for favors. When the honored couple ar rived they were dressed for the wedding the bride wore a plaid wedding veil attached to a band oi pink roses. The groom was dres sed in orange, swallow—tail coat v/ith green lapels, red plaid pants, and a top hat. The delicious meal consisted of fried chicken, charcoal potatoes, iced drinks and pecan tarts. A silver butter dish and an in itialed guest register with advice from each guest were presented to the honoree. The guests included Miss Holt, Mr. Parham, Mrs. W. P. Holt, Jr., Miss Nancy Holt, Dr. H. D. (Buster) Mabe, Miss Mary Alice Ryals of, Benson, Charles Williams, Miss Margaret Cathey, and Exum Kirby oi Dunn, Miss Lucy McDonald and Norwood Chestnutt of Dunn, and Mrs. Sarah Profitt of Chapel Hill, Al and Woody Woodall. I IN GREENVILLE Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fulton and sons Ricky and Ray of Green ville, S. C., are visiting Mrs. Ful ton’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cay Norris. TO CAMP Mr. and Mrs. Bryon Stevens went to Camp Wallawhatoola at Millboro, Va., this weekend to bring home their sons, Tommy and Johnnie ,who have attended Camp there the past eight weeks. It was stated that the padlocking was ordered because, the “defendant was using the pre mises for carying on the illicit sale of intoxicating liquor.” Rural Policemen B. E.
