Judge Woodrow Hill, handed Smith a 12 months sentence but suspended the term upon condi tions that the defendant pay the Costs and further that he pay .*160 into the court for the bene fit of McDougald. t Anderson Hill, Jr., 16-year-old Negro youth, was arrested and ; charged with driving without ope rators license and following too closely. Judgment was 30-days suspended upon payment of a $25 fine and the costs. Tom Hunter Welbourn, a Geor gia Negro, received 30-days sus pended for public drunkenness. Welbourn paid the costs. William A. Brown of Route 1, Erwin, received 90-days for public drunkenness. Prayer for judgment was con tinued in the case against Frede rick Louis Stewart, nr, of Ft. Bragg. Stewart, who was charged with driving without lights, was ordered to pay the costs. Hubert C, Campbell (Alias Luke Campbell) of Sanford received a suspended 8-months for disposing of mortgaged property and false pretense. Campbell was ordered to pay the costs and *310.28 into the court for the benefit of E. Baer 8t Sons. Harrington Somehow we cannot stress the importance of the 4-H Achievement Night enough. Oh, we can tell you it will be Thursday at 7:30 at the Fireman’s Hut in Lillington. But really what does this tell you? Already you eke saying that Thurs day is the night lor your club meet ing or a favorite television pro gram. So you are planning to go somewhere else or stay at home. What is this doing to the youth of Harnett County? This is a big night lor them. They have complet ed their project work, have com peted against others in the county and have finally become county winners. This Is the night they shine - they perform - they are recognized. But how can they per form if there Is no one there to see them? When we let the youth of our county down kfe let our future lead ers pf tomorrow down. This year the 4-H’ers are exhibit ing examples of their project work. Houk Named To Yankee Post NBW YORK (UFB — General Manager Roy Harney of the New York Yankees retired today and was succeeded in that position by Ralph Houk under a four - year contract. ■, Club President Dan Topping, who made the announcement, said that the Yankees’ new field man-' ager to succeed Houk would be named Thursday at noon. On Thursday Night ”1 Buies Creek Plans f «' Halloween Carnival Buies Creek High School’s an nual Halloween Carnival will turn classrooms into concessions and lun houses Thursday night, Octo ber *, as the hobgoblins make a special appearance there. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for the PTA-sponsored event, and meals will be served in the cafe teria until 7:30. Games and con cessions will open at 6:15 and close at 7:10. The talent show, a highlight of the evening pregram, will be pre sented against the background of the popular "Hootenanny’’ theme. All performers in the hour pro gram are students in the school. Also Included in the auditorium program is the crowning of a king and queen of Halloween from the junior high and a prince and princess from the elementary grades. Winners of door prises will be announced during the show. PTA president Stanly Dale will share emcee duties with Joyner Taylor, junior at the high school.
