ANNOUNCE ENGAGEMENT — Miss Brenda Sue Lee is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Percy W. Lee of Route 2, Newton Grove. Her engagement to Robert Haze MaScey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Makey of Richmond, Va„ formerly of Dunn, is announced by her parents. The wedding is planned for January 12. Ann Smith Feted At Party Ann Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith, was ho nored at a birthday party Thurs day morning at the Smith home on West Carr Street. She was four years old. After the guests arrived, Christmas stockings were given as favors. A birthday tablecloth covered the refreshment table and ice cream, cake, candy and Kool Aid were served. Party Honors Julian Hutaff A group of neighborhood child ren helped Julian Hutaff cele brate his sixth birthday with a party Wednesday afternoon given by his mother, Mrs. Vaughan Hutaff. The home economist with Carolina Power & Light Co., Miss Lane Siler, showed slides of Christmas decorations that could be used for home decorat ing and stressed the use of co lors and how the decorations may be emphasized by the addi tion of lights. The luncheon speaker was Charlie McCullers, manager of the Dunn Chamber of Commerce. The invocation was given by the Rev. Carlos Womack. Mrs. M. L. Gardner, family life lead er, gave the devotion. A number of awards were pre sented and recognition given. Mrs. Ray Matthews recognized new club members who had joined clubs during the year. The Johnsonville Club received seven new members, the highest number for the county. GETS CERTIFICATES Receiving reading certificates were Mrs. Ola Smith, Mrs. Guy Davies, Mrs. Paul Bradley, Mrs. W. E. McDougald, Mrs. Ernest Byrd and Mrs. Will Crumplen for reading and reporting on three books. Advanced reading certificates were received by Mrs. Holt Cannady, Mrs. Paul Bradley, Mrs. Guy Davies and Mrs. Jarvis Pleasants. Mrs. Margaret Randall, Har nett County Librarian gave a Harnett County Library Exten sion Reading Certificate to those v/ho have read beyond the state reading requirement. Those re ceiving this certificate read at least ten bo'ks. They were: Mrs. W. R. Cranford, Mrs. C. M. Saunders, Mrs. Clarence Holder, Mrs. Cyrus McNeill, and Mrs. U. M. Ennis. The Goodwill Club was pre sented ten dollars from Belks for doing the most outstanding work of the year. Long Branch Club was second place. Mrs. Ruby Parker Home Eco nomics Extension Agent present ed a gavel to be worn on the chain of the club pin to the three County Council Presidents who have worked with her. They are: Mis. Johnnie, Barnes, Mrs. Lester Dawson and Mrs. M. M. Jernigan. Forty-nine club members had perfect attendance for the year. Mrs. E. L. Parrish leads the group with a twenty-three year record. Mrs. H. M. O’Quinn has perfect attendance for twenty one years. Integrity; vision t< see needs; and stewardship. He said that Home Demonstration women are noted for these four elements. Following the luncheon the group toured Wellon’s Candy Co. Mrs. M. M. Jernigan, County Council President, presided at the program and the luncheon. Mrs Angie D. Henderson, county song leader and Mrs. Ver non Sykes, organist, directed the group in singing. Mrs, Yates Griffis recognized the special guests. The Achieve ment planning committee was composed of Mrs. Mack Reid Hudson. Mrs. W. R. Langdon, Mrs. George Hall, Mrs. Yates Griffis, and Mrs. John A. Tart. Others serving on committees and assisting in the activities of the day were; Mrs. Leondias Jackson. Mrs. Cleon Wilson, Mrs. Claude Pope, Mrs. Bill Woodall, Miss Mary Parker and Mrs. A D. She told of the Citation, of Merit which had been won by the Battle of Aver asboro Qhapter 2320, UDC, Dunn, tof having secured the most new members (between the ages of 18 and 30 years of age). Mrs. Melvin J. Weeks, presi dent of the local chapter, has already received this citation from the general organization of the UDC. Special Services At First Baptist Week of Prayer for Foreign Missions begins at the First Bap tist Church Monday night. The Theme for the week will be “Crown Him Lord of All.” The week precedes the inga thering of the Lottie Moon Christmas offering. Special services will be held Monday at 8:00 pm. and Tues day, Thursday and Friday after noons at 4:00 On Wednesday night at 7:30. Judson Lennon, a missionary to Thailand will be the speaker. Mrs. Joe Ruark is prayer chairman for the WMU. Crown Employees Have Yule Party Employees of Crown Depart ment Store gathered Wednes day night at the William and Mary Motel and Restaurant at Newton Grove for their Christ mas party.
