Wrestling Returns To Dunn Friday - '■ ■ MISS PENNY BANNER Championship wrestling is re turning to Dunn. That’s right, championship wrestling featuring some of the biggest names in the wrestling world will return to the Dunn National Guard Armory on Friday. February 21. This should be an exciting night of wrestling, for making their first appearance in this area after an absence of some time are the “Mad Russians”, Ivan Kameroff ■Wld John Smith. Everyone remembers, or should remember, the wild antics of these Russian “meanies”. They have been known to use every thing from crowbars to brass knuckles to win their matches. However, they will find the going very tough the 21st as Promoter Bob Campbell has se cured the services of one of the top ranking heavyweight wrestlers in the world today, Jack Allen, who has just arrived in this area. Allen, a young man who enter ed wrestling only a few short years ago, already has a very impressive record. He will take on as his part ner in this tag team match a form er Albuquerque school teacher and i perhaps one of the brightest stars on the wrestling horizon today, Jack Lanza who stands 6 ft. 5 in. and weighs 245 pounds. Allen anc Lanza hav» been working daily k take on Smith and Kameroff, whc incidentally are the former world tag team champions. Both Aller and Lanza have vowed to make this premiere appearance of Kam eroff and Smith one that the “Mad Russians’’ will not forget. Highlighting this sensational card will be a girl’s match featur ing the blond and beautiful Miss Penny Banner. Her opponent will be newcomer Miss Nellie Stafford. Penny Banner is a former Judo In structor at a “Y” in St. Louis, Missouri. She was entertaining on a USO show when she was spotted by a promoter who watched as she tossed 200 pound marines around. The opening event of the evening will feature Alex Medina from Pu erto Rico, a very popular young man, taking on the rough veteran Two-ton Harris. All In all this should be a very exciting night of wrestling for the many wrestling fans who have requested that championship wrestling return to the Dunn area. Don’t forget the matches will start promptly at 8:15 Friday, February 21 at the National Guard Armory in Dunn. Tar Heels Lose North Carolina faltered in the final minutes and' lost a wild 69 68 contest to New York University Wednesday night while the Dea cons of Wake Forest avenged them selves against the VPI Cobblers 85 82. The Tar Heels, now 10-6 in all games this season, battled from be hind to tie the score at 59-59 and then traded the Violets basket - for basket until the final two minu tes. That’s When Carlton Rooks and Stan McKenzie, a pair of NYU sophomores hit back - to - back baskets to lift the Violets to vic tory. The Tar Heels trailed most of the game and their chances ap peared hopeless when Billy Cun ningham fouled out midway in the second half but the Tar Heels fought back gamely to almost pull the game out. Cunningham still managed to lead all scorers with 23 points in addition to excellent rebounding and fine defensive work before the home folks at Madison Square Gar den. Wake Forest’s Bob Leonard and Frank Christie hit 24 and 22 points respectively to pace the Dea cons to their eighth win in 17 starts this season. 'The victory avenged a 77 - 72 VPI victory earlier in the sea son and boosted the Deacons near the .500 mark this season. Wake Forest trailed most of the game but managed to take the lead, 68 - 66, with nearly six minu tes left.
