Slate StWate “A NEW VISION'’ FOR Harnett . Hoke . Lee Moore - Randolph ... NOT FOR ONE, BUT FOR ALL FIVE COUNTIES May $0 Democratic DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP RECORD PORUM TO THE EDITOR: I have been thinking more or less about LAKE and MOORE and PREYER and the future pro gress and growth of North Caro lina. A careful study of the three principal candidates reveals an, in teresting picture. There appears no special or material program of fered us with the result that a hout the only question before us is the choice between the said three meh. We have for conside ration three men, each with a dif ferent rearing, different back ground, different life^ and diffe rent experience: thus we have men of different ideas, different ideals, different understanding and dif ferent approach as to the every day problems of the people and the State, as well as to the pro per solution for a better growth and development of our State. The difference is there, even though it is not apparent to all. We have: 1. PREYER, a rich | family man with a fortune large ly from the sales of home reme j dies, with a family connection j with the Scales Case, with a pos sible Sanford connection, and with a possible NAACP Endoresment: 2. MOORE, an orphan Mid self made successful business man, and 3. LAKE, a college professor, an intellectual, a great Constitu tional lawyer, anti-Civil Rights Crusader, who says he will not enforce the bad bill, much like a Parnett or Wallace. We complain about the Bad Ci vil Rights Bifl, which in fact is little more than a wanned over Reconstruction Act or better a Force Bill largely aimed at the South. Remember that about all Northern States and others with FE.P.C. are exempted along with various groups, all of which Is not generally known. To our sorrow the Bill, bad as it is, will finally be passed Into law, in some minor watered down version. This sim ply because the Northern and Western States are largely exempt ed and have the necessary votes. Thus it becomes somewhat again, Tankee vs Rebel. It is like again fighting the old Civil War, with the South (Rebels though they i bet able to carry on little more tw'l riljb- guard action, ffe may scream and cry, but ours is but a Rebel Yell In the Yankee Wilder ness. Shame! Raleigh found money to give large salary increases to the so called Big Men, but failed to find any crumbs for the little folks. We can understand why some or all of the said Big Men are actively working and interest ed in the Campaign, some even traveling with and having their pictures taken at PREYER Rallies. But the question remains. Why are they for PREYER? Voters: The choice is yours. May the Best man . win for a Finer North Carolina! Respectfully submitted, Walter Lee Johnson Lillington, N. C.
