LUCILLE MAT, WOMAN’S EDITOR Miss Winstead Weds Thomas Spence, Jr. Miss Brenda Sue Winstead of ] Sanford end Thomas Kendall Spence, Jr., of Lawrenceville, Va. were married Saturday evening in the Jonesboro Baptist Church of Sanford. The Rev. Mr. Robert Dillon Burch, former classmate of the groom and pastor of the South Hill Presbyterian Church in South Hill, ,Va., officiated and vas assisted by the Rev. Mr. Gil bert W. McDowell, pastor of the bride. The service was taken from the Book of Common Order of the Church of Scotland. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wayland Winstead of Sanford. She was graduated from Sanford Central High School and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she majored in elementary education. She taught last year in the Lee County School System and will teach in Lawrenceville next year. Her husband, son of Mr. and Mrs. Spence of Lillington, is a 1960 graduate of Davidson College with a degree in psychology. In May, he received his Bachelor of Divinity degree from Union Theo logical Seminary in Va. He is now serving as the minister-elect of Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church He will be ordained and installed as pastor of the church Septem ber 6. Given in marriage by her fa ther, the bride wore a floor length gow:n of white angel mist taffeta accented t>j Chantilly lace. The fitte^ bodice had elbow length MRS. THOMAS KENDALL SPENCE. JR. sleeves and a high Italian waist line. The Iron* pan—, appliqued in lace, was encrusted with pearls and a triangulor train of Chan tilly lace, Bordered in taffeta, flowed from the dome-shaped skirt. Her bouffant veil of illu sion was attached to a cabbage rose of alcncon lace and seed pearls and she carried a cascade bouquet of glamellias. ATTENDANTS Miss Brenda Womble of San ford, the maid of honor, wore a floor length dress of custard peau de soie. The dress featured a scooped neckline, empire waist line and elbow length sleeves. A semi-train of loose pleats was at tached to a tailored bow at the back waist. She wore a veil of matching illusion attached to a bow. Dressed identically to the honor attendant were the bridesmaids, Miss Sandra Winstead of Sanford, the bride’s cousin; Miss Janice Smith of Lillington, cousin of the bridegroom; Miss Ann Chaney of Lake Park, Fla., and Mrs. Tal cott Wait Avera of Columbia, S. C., classmates of the bride. All the attendants carried cascades of gold and bronze chrysanthemums. The junior attendant, Miss Su san Winstead, sister of the bride, was dressed in long white dotted Swiss trimmed in yellow and green and carried a miniature bouquet of yellow flowers. Ringbearer was Master Whit son Arnold, nephew of the groom. Warren William Womble of Sanford was best man for Mr. Spence and Gary Leslie Winstead oi Sanford, the bride’s brother, ushered with Thomas Johnson of Elkton, Va„ Merwyn Johnson of Staunton, Va. and Warren Leo nard Pate of Dunn. Organist for the ceremony was Robert F. Atkins of Troy. Mrs. Fred Ray, Jr., of Sanford direct ed the wedding. The mother of the bride wore a blue lace sheath with matching accessories and a corsage of white orchids. The mother of the groom wore a mauve lace dress with ac cessories to match and an orchid corsage. The bride’s going away costume , was a peacock blue linen suit with I light blue whipped cream blouse. Phe wore blue and white acces sories and a corsage of glamellias. After a trip to the coast of South Carolina and the Shenan doah Valley, the couple will be at home in Southhampton Hills, j Lawrenceville, Va. RECEPTION Following the ceremony, the parents of the bride entertained at a reception in the fellowship hall of the cnurch. Guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Evanaer C. Winstead. Re ceiving at the door were Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Winstead, Jr., and | Mr. and' Mrs. Douglas Johnson. The receiving line was composed of the parents of the couple, the bridal pair attendants and Mr. and Mrs. Elton Arnold, sister of the groom. Miss Kate Hamilton directed the guests to the bride’s table, where Mrs. Hamilton Leslie and Mrs. G . C. Winstead poured punch. .Mrs. W. J. Womble and Mrs. B. W. Sherman served the cake. I Mrs. R. E. Fitchette, Jr., Mrs. j C. J. Harrington, Misses Carolyn and Judy Batchelor, Judy Har rington, Cathy Winstead, Kitty j Lou Mullins, Penny and Patricia j Roberts, and Betty Burkhead as sisted in serving. The guest register was presided > over by Mrs. Wilma Leslie, grand | mother of the bride, and Mrs. W. j A. Harkey. Goodbyes were said by Mr. and Mrs. S. Vernon Stevens, Jr. WEEKEND GEESTS Visiting Mrs, Vadie Hodges over I the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Ted Chilton and family of Dan ville, Va., and Mr. and Mrs. John lb rie of St. Pauls. IN TENNESSEE Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Tew have returned after spending several days in Chattanooga, Tenn., vi siting Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Ban ther of several days. FROM NORFOLK Henry Tew of Norfolk, Va., spent the weekend here visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Tew.
